Anything substantially cheaper is a good deal though  Used drives I tend to only get now for pocket change via work, but before (years back) I did buy some used drives.

I think this is the first time I've bought any used drives for more than dirt cheap. I wanted to get it up and running quickly for cheap. If there are any decent sales on large externals later in the year I might see if they're interested in picking some up to dump their BDs on.
I usually buy new or harvest something out of a dead or useless tower.
My main source for desktop drives are PVR's, either with or without DVD. 2.5" drives come from faulty laptops, Xbox 360 & PS3 etc.
Even if they're smaller drives like 250GB or whatever I still reuse them for backing up roms etc.
Round here used PVR boxes cost $20, if you can even find them...
what's a pvr? is that like a dvr?
That's actually the first site I hit, and JD2 wasn't able to manage the links I fed it... Maybe I just need an update.
As for why, just started looking, and hitting the first stuff I've come across.
Ewaste is not available to the public here. Used to be able skim for stuff, till scrap metal retards noticed and started breaking everything so they could get precious wire...
Random faggotry.
Sometimes if you haven't used JD2 for a while you need to let it sit for a bit to get updates. Yeah a few times I've started it up, added links as soon as it was ready to go and shit didn't work properly.
But all the links I've used on that site are compatible, for the protected links the site even states they are for "JD use only" (whatever the hell that means).
I get a lot of stuff there, but reddit usually has new BP's sooner (because backporters usually post there after twitter release).
I only ever went to twitter once to get Fatal Frame BP, I think it was like a week or something before the BP finally filtered out to dlps.
Well, I have looked there more than once but was just curious. I only ever dl'd that one BP from twitter.
Just bookmark r/pkglinks and dlps. You don't really need anything else imo. Reddit has a heap of PS2 ports by Vika (a few by some others, but she does a lot of testing and posting there and elsewhere).
Don't care about BP's, I jumped up to 9.00. I could've installed the 7.xx mods I've ignored for years, but there looks to be no real advantage to em.
Maybe I should give the 9.xFW exploit a try.
Yeah people claim 9.00 is great but I'm still on 5.05 and have never failed to load exploit first time, seen kernel panics or anything.
It works quick and easy. I've never had any issues so why change? :lol
If you were above 5.05 already then yeah it's recommended to update to 9.00, but most sensible people still think 5.05 is the best.
Anything in between kinda sucks from what I've seen... people posting "hey I get error blah blah I'm on 6.xx" :pwacko:
There is at least one game that can't get 5.05 BP but I can't recall which, I do know I have it on XB1 anyway so I don't care. Maybe there are some others but they would be a similar story; nothing significant.
I have notepad monitoring turned off. I like to do everything manually to stay super organised.. plus nothing worse than forgetting it's turned on and going off to do other shit.
Come back later and it has grabbed a load of random shit
With the reddit stuff just watch the download names, sometimes the uploaders just have messy pkg names and I don't like that. If you load up a heap at once the names can be confusing... I like to be organised, did I mention that? :revwacko:
I always update PSP's to 6.60 CFW, and I use lite (non-permanent). No bricks.
Use CDDA plugin for PSX conversions.
No messing around with POPS or anything, it isn't needed.
Betas run fine, including Oblivion mods (as long as extra ram is enabled so obviously you can't run them on 1000 models).
Oh yeah, if you're 5.05 there ain't no reason to change.
Yeah, it does need a USB stick. I have those just laying around unused...
This too. I believe it caches the exploit so you only need to connect for a couple minutes. But the guide I followed did something with the DNS settings to block Sony's servers, so it don't matter much.
Well if it only connects that once initially it's the same as earlier exploits.
Popped open that ext 2.5" drive again...
Seagate BarraCuda ST4000LM024
4TB, 128MB cache, Sata III
15mm drive
Manufacture date is July 2021.
The guide I followed was simple, or maybe complicated if you consider the mod is actually only a couple minutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVFbo23BCK4
TLDW: install 9.00, flash a thumbdrive, hit a website on your PS4, click on exploit and stick the drive in when prompted
Edit: Hardest part of the mod was I couldn't find the web browser ^^;;; The XMB only shows like the last 20 things you've clicked and I've never ever clicked on the browser :lol
Thanks :P.
ps4 games backported to ps3?
where roms plox
Well I've figured out what does and doesn't work with JD2. It's partly my bad luck hitting a non-working link on the random first link I tried, but yeah, there are indeed some links that after getting through the adfly bullshit, land on a link protector page with a captcha scheme that JD2 can't solve. These links are doubly worthless, I clicked my way through one and onto that link protector. That link protector had 30-40 links on it, it did not tell me the filenames of any of the links, it required me to click on each link to pop them open in a new tab, and each click had a 75% chance spawning a popup or forwarding the page to an ad. When the page forwards I have to back up the browser to that hard to get to page, and it drops me at the top of the page with no real way to tell where I left off. Literally a fucking nightmare that'd require literally hundreds of clicks just to harvest links for one game. I made a slight effort to try too, and accidentally closed the tab while trying to manage all the tabs it was spawning :lol
Thankfully the error JD2 shows when it hits that site is pretty obvious, so I can just ignore it, and move onto links JD2 can manage.
Someone dumped Darkwood from disc and the latest update a few hours ago, but it needs a backport (update 1.06 needs fw7.00 afaik).
