No, the only basic lands are the basic land cards. Some duals have subtypes though, for instance Tundra is a nonbasic land, but it also a Island and a Plains at the same time. You can play dual lands in your deck, as long as they are the produce your commanders colors.

I was taught how to play EDH wrong. A player told me to place your commanders on the field on turn 1, then apply the whole, "add 2 to colorless mana when it's removed from the game to play it again."

That is unfortunate, Commanders go to their own zone at the beginning of the game, you cast them from that zone for their normal mana cost.

At least now I can appreciate the real game of Commander. Was thinking about a green and white elf deck and using Gaddock Teeg as a anti spellcasting leader while using an Elf or creature themed deck.

Actually the very first rule of Commander is: Don't listen to Nemesis, he'll lead you astray. :trollface:

EDIT: Also, I would like to point out that the only good part of that EDH game we played is when I played Hinder on Shard's commander, that should happen more often. :cool:
