Keeping the format intact would be necessary. There's some unseen code in there that's used for displaying it. Weird stuff and all that. Plus it seriously cuts down on the time necessary to turn them back into files the game can process properly. Well, without rewriting HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF LINES OF CODE in any case.
