I'd avoid bottom of the barrel stuff. Other than that, just check reviews before committing to one board or another.

Are you kidding me?

Please don't tell me GC games are worth this much :dizzy:
I think sirs....I have had about as much as i can take from this country and will be convincing whats left of my family to emigrate...fuck england with a 90foot barbed wire barge pole.
Would probably be better than here man XD. I mean a dead end job is not seen as something holy in america, here in england im being told im not good enough to clean toilets ¬_¬ or stack shelves or indeed anything like that and manual labour? Almost gone and what's left gets chocked in insurance bullshit "can't have you on site without insurance" (this came from being so desperate i offered to work for free)...all the while the job center keep setting the moving hoops on fire. Only thing they say im good for is the new "work based help development programs!". Starts off with:
A) we sit you down infront of our little computers child (yes, sometimes these "THINGS" have that type of patronising personality) and we look over your shoulder to see what you are doing ^^
when this fails and we KNOW it will, this leads to:
B) we put you on a slave labour job, 7 till 5 (sometimes 9) EVERY day saturdays included for 150 pound every 2 weeks, yes we know this is WAY under minimum wage, yes we KNOW this is slave labour but we are the government :) if you dont like it WEEEEELL you can go on the street little souless animal ^^ maybe a food bank that we denied the existence off for 6 years will give you some food? but we doubt it, we started to shut them down! OH DEAR!
Some games have since been better optimized for Ryzen and the performance differences have closed or disappeared.
is amd any cheaper than intel on comparative cpus?
That's part of why it's competitive. There was a substantial price drop until a few days ago too.
How much were you wanting to spend on a build?
right now I'm just getting an idea of what to look for what I want is something that can run older pc games like duke nukem forever fallout 3 gta 4 ect and high end emulation mostly pcsx2 and dolphin.
what I'll probably end up doing is buying it piece by piece starting with a case and maybe a psu. I'm not sure if it's better to build based on the case I get or get a case based on the hardware I want the last time I built one I did it based on the case I had at the time and cheaped out on some things I wish I wouldn't have.
You might want to poke around CL and see what you can turn up. Sandy and Ivy bridge are old enough at this point that most people are moving on and taking cheap-ish prices.
I'd avoid buying piece by piece sans maybe the case. An i5 2500/2600/3570/3770K with a modest GPU will run all those games and emulators without any trouble.
If you aren't wanting to spend a lot and could get a build like that for $350ish or less it would be worth considering.
Edit: My suggestions heavily depend on how much you're wanting to spend.
just took a quick look at boards came across this https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9SIA6ZP5739851
seems pretty good.
You should only need enough room for an optical drive and 2x internal HDDs max. Larger drives are always getting cheaper so if you use 2 of them it's fairly quick and easy to swap out the second one for a larger drive.
Backing up shit you use externals and don't keep them hooked up unless you're actually using them.
I'd go for at least 2TB primary, although 4TB isn't expensive atm imo.
I believe the game was originally built for consoles, so the PC version is a port. A port of a last gen console game.
Maybe it is possible to force 4k I wouldn't know  You probably have to mess around with files or whatever.
But there isn't an official release or patch to improve the game to current gen standards.
Some of the dialogue has changed now anyway, ok so not much and it's only related to questioning. I remember reading that originally the relevant dialogue was intended to be different than what it was in the first release.
Yeah plenty of PC dudes recommend ssd for primary drive because of the increased read/write speeds. Also reliability has been an additional reason for using them, but they can fail just like any other drive...even when quite new.
No reason why you can't use a larger capacity sata drive though, just depends what your priorities are really.
I believe Inferno had a SSD fail on him when it was fairly new.
By that I mean you don't necessarily go for the largest HDD you can afford, you go for the sizes that are good value for capacity. As I said you only really need 2 internal HDDs max, you can use externals for everything else and always upgrade the second internal later on when it's worth doing.
I'm sure somebody obsessed with racial purity will come along and poo-poo what I posted. Because all of my hardware is potato anyway.
I imagine price is a concern from what you're saying Grouch. You could always grab a small sata drive to start or even just yank one out of a laptop until you save up for more impressive hardware.
price is only a concern because I really don't need some uber gaming rig.
a laptop drive is an option since I have this one that's only a year old and 500gb building a desktop means I really have no use for this old laptop other than maybe as a backup but with the screen dying out on it it'd only serve as a desktop(which is what I'm using it for right now)
