Did you know in England we have a prison that is completly empty? It is capable of holding 300 or so prisoners. Here is the punch line, it is still being fully staffed and gaurded.

The custodial system will never be a perfect one. Prison will never be a nice place to go, or at least shouldn't. Mind you, I have heard a few cases of people wanting to prison, because of the fact it's free. In Isreal, (I am talking about bible times) there was no prison. During the period when they were obedient, crime was punished by either re-payment, work (Labour) or death. There was no need for prisons. If someone is sent to prison today, will that aid the victim? rather, re-paying back what was taken, or something practical like working to give back to the community. The death sentace, was used for major crimes back then. When the sense of justice was perfect, that is. But times have changed.

If an offender repeates the act, then obviosly they didn't learn thier lesson the first time they were punished.

If you think someone is weak for letting go of a grudge, then you must have no forgivness in you. Accepting apologies, I did not say. Rather not taking revenge by murder. It can be hard to let something go, it does not nessacerily mean someone is weak, not physicaly. So you believe being mentaly strong is giving in to anger, rather then having the self control to do the right thing?

They recive both in some cases. I thought they recived therapy already, the neutering is a new thing. By the way, I forgot to mention the neutering is voluntary. It does have an effect which help's at least, of what was been reported anyway.

Well, here all our prisons are used, but since guardians are unionised and always demanding for more and more, since prisoners are having cable tv if not satellite, porn magazines, college level education, since many prisoners have a particular diet if they have a different religion... You get the idea, that mounts up to an average of 90000 C$/prisoner for a year. Too freaking much that could be invested in health care or schools.

Indeed, instead of laying on their asses and getting a level of education via our taxes, which is reprehensible, that most of us can't even afford, they should be giving something back to the People by working outside, cleaning the landscape of debris or something like that. Make them useful.

Woa, let's sort through this. If someone pushes you and you trip while having fun, that you can forgive, but if someone rapes and murders a sibling, forgiving that means to me that you are either weak or just unable to do that. It takes a lot of "power" to hold a grudge, it can only command respect from people. It's so unbelievable to see parents on tv forgiving the rapist. It just pisses me off to no end. Tangents! Yay! It takes a toll on your body when you hold a grudge, hence the need to be physically strong, to some extent that is.

Being mentally strong doesn't mean you give in to anger, it means you control it, you harness energy, motivation from it to do stuff, mainly prevent it from happening ever again by helping others foresee as much as possible what it is that happened to you. Recognising how pedophiles act for example. That's what I believe.

It is voluntary, but it shouldn't be when faced with a recidivist. And chemical castration can easily be bypassed by not taking the pills. Take away the weapon (sexual desire), and the man is mainly harmless.

Well y'know, mabye we should define grundge. I said revenge, as in to murder. Just because you don't want to kill them doesn't mean you've forgiven them.

Nope, it's just like some people deal with anger by cleaning, you can deal with the emotions you have when you don't forgive, hold a grudge, against someone. If you use that "anger" as a fuel for some organized awareness program or whatever, that can be therapeutic aswell.
