I don't know if it's worth it, but it is indeed possible to get pre-paid codes. I've even seen cards at Gamestop for just a few months, but I don't know if it's more cost effective or something to just go with the full year.

Yeah I'd only get a year, no point having content for 3 months then losing it. :P I'd be worried in case I can't renew it next year and I lose all my stuffs though. :(

You don't lose anything that you got on a Plus-plan sale, only stuff that was Free for Plus users. Personally I don't think it's too worth it.. The money you can spend on the subscription could just as easily go to all the games you want to play. The only way it could possibly be an advantage to you is if there is a LOT on the store you want, and even then.. I notice only select stuff ever gets a sale. (Usually nothing I care about.)
