Now back to what is really important (Germany). The talent is there, including stupid depth in some areas (midfield), the problem seems to be finding the "right XI" or some other nonsense. I know Lahm likes playing in MF or w/e but I think he is needed in defense against the absolute top teams (Spain, Brazil).
I've thought about this a lot. If it were me (lol) I'd roll this out there.
G Neuer
D Lahm, Hummels, Boateng, Jansen
MF: Schürrle, Basti, Kroos (mainly for terrible Kroos control, Kroos missle jokes etc...but also because he's a good player and I don't like Özil's mental make-up among other things)
Wing: Müller, Götze
Striker: Gómez
Key Reserves: Reus, Podolski and Özil all offer different attacking options and could be needed. Khedira offers a good MF option when protecting a lead. Defense I would really never change unless there were card or injury issues.
Clearly though the German coaches don't see some of these players in the roles I do though, and I doubt this line-up ever happens. Main thing is this puts 4 attacking players on the field (Schürrle, Müller, Götze, Gómez) and would be a headache to defend. Plus Basti and Kroos are capable enough on offense as well.
