Ugh, my shitty printer died. Possibly from lack of use, I guess the printer head has dried up or some shit? I guess this is a lucky week to have a shitty printer die, maybe I can get another for $20 or something?
A lot of those cheap basic wireless printers are complete junk, and I wouldn't bother with anything used unless it is free, but even then you're just getting rid of someone else's rubbish for them :lol
Even if it's just out of ink the chances that at least a jet is partially blocked or even completely blocked.
Sure, you can tear down a printer and soak the head in isopropyl alcohol but it isn't worth the time, effort and wasted alcohol in 99.9% of cases.
It would need to be a wide body printer or an expensive photo type with CD/DVD printing to be worth refurbishing. Some printers also have waste ink units that are chipped.
It's a fucking nightmare for amateurs :lol
Yeah there's no way I'm taking Craigslist trash, free would be overpriced. Ink prices probably start at like $30, and the things basically guaranteed to have issues. Like my piece of trash I'm sure I've printed less than 500 pieces of paper lifetime (maybe less than 200?) and the thing died all on its own.
I think I'm going to walk into Superstore. They had some no-tax week going when I walked into there the other day. And this sort of thing is right up their no-tax event alley, like I think they has 55 inch TVs for $200 and shit (I walked past it all, it's always cheap assed brands).
Yeah I Googled this a bit, and it's totally possible to tear things out and clean them and shit. But it's not worth the hassle for a worthless printer. Like while I'm cleaning the print head the ink cartridges could dry/clog, and then I'd have wasted time on something that may still not work and need to spend $30 on new ink.
Won an auction for one of those janky Chinese SNES mini clones (US looking type, HDMI, 821 games onboard).
I have bid on the odd local auction for these before but never had any luck under $10aud... can't say that now though :pwacko:
The controller ports are the famiclone type (look like Genesis/Atari/C64 ports but the wiring is different), which is exactly what I wanted :revwacko:
It's very likely I'll tear this thing to bits when I get it (after a night of playing some games anyway :P ), just for parts:
HDMI cable - spare cable.
2x Controllers - test to see if they work on my 1:1 discrete famiclone, L/R buttons shouldn't work and maybe select won't too, but I'm hoping the rest function the same as standard famiclone type controllers.
HDMI upscaler - possibly use this in something else I have with only composite out.
Case - keep for a possible future project, like a Pi or whatever. I may even end up using it as a GBS-8200 case if it's fit for purpose.
PSU - I'll have to investigate this, hopefully the board inside is translating USB input to at least one other voltage  If not then the USB psu adapter goes into the spares bin.
Oh wow. You can get IPS RIPS kits for original Gameboy and Pockets now?
Colour screen, OSD with screen position and colour palette adjustments :doink:
Spoiler warning:
Been a couple weeks... :lol Finally got settled into the new house. Still getting some things unpacked but got my desk and computer finally done today.
Bleh, Superstore *had* cheaper printers, Canon's so not total junk too. But today is the last day of their Black Friday sale, so they're long soldout. Maybe they'll throw more stuff out tomorrow, but that seems highly unlikely.
Ink for the cheap Canon's isn't cheap iirc.
Usually go for the Epson's that have like 5 or whatever ink carts. Like my current working printer is WorkForce 545 (AIO), full ink cart pack for that works out to be less than $20aud (might even be under $15aud) but I usually buy at least 2 complete sets at once to get a discount.
Ink cart set for an equivalent Canon printer would be more like $30aud plus but sometimes it's more like $50aud depending on the model.
Well I'm starting to run out of room on my 4TB HDD. I wish the 8TB weren't so expensive.
Yeah, I'm thinking it's not even worth it for me to buy replacement ink for a printer. I print so little the initial sample sized ink's lasted like 80% of my current printers life. I'm sure if I printed more it'd be worth it for me to buy a slightly better printer. But like, I print out Amazon return labels, movie tickets (I think I can just use my phone for them nowadays), and a hard copy of my annual income tax return. I probably only print 20-30 pages a year.
If they're throwing any stock on the floors I'm not going to see it, I'm sure it'd get snatched up 1st thing in the morning whenever they may have them.
They had preorders online a few weeks ago. I dunno if you could pick those up in stores. I know Shoppers had online preorders with in store pickups, and you could time the pickup to their 20x PC Point day!
Actually should have a bunch of points saved up, I go to Shoppers all the time.
Does anyone know how to charge an OLED Sony PS Vita - PCH-1000 without the original charger? I know a Slim can charge through a PC USB port.
I'm looking at the OLED model on eBay, and the listing says :I'm not entirety sure what he means...Quote:
USB cable included, can be charged with any usb or micro usb charger.
We have two here and it needs to at least have the proprietary cable. The other end is male USB and the original supply offers 200mA of current.
The internet says you can charge it on a computer with 500mA, but you need the special cable either way.
By "USB cable included" I assume they mean the proprietary sync/charge to USB cable. Is there no picture of the cable?

He reckons I can just put a phone plug on and plug into the wall.
If there's a usb cable included just use a decent usb supply like 1A Apple type etc.
The usb power cords are dirt cheap. The console will only draw what it needs.
The usb power supplies are easy to find, I collect odd decent ones from work now and then. Apple (both large old and small new types), Samsung and Chromecast are just some example sources.
They're great for mini consoles and also handhelds (NDSL, PSP etc) via the correct cable. Sometimes the power requirements will be above 1A so you may need to collect some usb adapters that are rated above that.
My OLED doesn't have an original charger and I just use a cheap USB cord ;)
And yes even though the power charging requirement for some things will be like 5.2v DC they will still charge via the correct usb cable using a standard 5v usb power adapter :)
Just don't try a usb adapter type setup for something that only takes under 5v, like Game Boy Color and also old style GBA battery kits (both of which are around 3v).
Mandomandomandomando!!!!
Spoiler warning:
Anyone had much experience using step down DC buck converters? Specifically the variable type.
loads
Excellent.
I've got an old GBA grip/battery pack here that has 2x what appear to be AA batteries and I assume they would be nimh 1.2v. I have other GBA battery packs here that are nimh but these particular cells have no identification on them at all they are just plain blue colour (I remember seeing plain rechargeable batteries like this back in the days of nicad).
Anyway, like other GBA battery packs this thing uses a Game Boy Color type charger, 3v DC. I don't actually have the charger or a color charger but I have verified the specs are the same.
I was thinking of pulling the old cells (they're tabbed with wires) and putting in some AA or AAA packs instead, so if the cells get tired the unit can be opened up (phillips head screws) and batteries swapped out easily.
Would just using a buck converter and like a usb-c or whatever before the batteries be sufficient in this case or should anything extra be added in for protection?
I mean replace the old DC 3v socket with usb-c.
Actually, if I tried a 4x AAA setup would it be ok to run 2x buck converters? One before the batteries (drop to 4.8v) and one after batteries (drop to 3v).
Or in that scenario is the first converter totally unnecessary as 5v going into 4.8v worth of nimh is ok? I'm not sure about this really, I mean it seems that these standard packs appear to have 2.4v worth of nimh taking a 3v charge input
I'm thinking full 3v running into the console is better than 2.4v, and 4x AAA should probably fit. Unlikely I could squeeze 4x AA in there including holders.
It's one of these things (same colour actually) and one of my GBA's is a matching colour too...

For inside pics I can't find anything online, my phone can't take decent pictures so I'm not confident about giving that a try.
With the USB port I might actually go larger, possibly micro or even mini. There seems to be a bit of space there but I'll see.
For fixing the port in place most people seem to say hot glue (for diy projects in general) but is it really necessary? I mean is epoxy ok?
I'll PM you
Hmm.
Finding it a bit hard to find a USB charge pcb. I found a few for "charging Li-Ion" but I think those aren't any good for this? Says 4.2v charge voltage.
Actually some of those listings don't state Li-Ion anyway so idk...
The Li-Ion usb charge boards seemed to be TP4056. For Arduino?
Maybe I should just can this project
Actually, I can see notes about not leaving this TP4056 connected to a battery for months because it uses micro amps.
I guess a switch could be added though to turn the module on and off for charging purposes :thot:
So one of these TP4056 modules, a LiPo battery (I might actually have a new unused large thin type here from some kind of modern smart phone) and then the buck converter to drop 3.7v down to 3v should work?
Not the same as my idea of having AAA nimh packs, which I would prefer tbh as I have a good stock of them atm and keep picking up more.
But I guess if the LiPo is feasible, it's just a matter of me collecting some of those batteries as future spares.
 I've got 2x LiPo usb modules here now, both use micro usb input.
One is smaller footprint with 1x 1A usb output.
The other is larger (well, longer) and has 1x 1A plus 1x 2A usb outputs.
Both have a switch for onboard battery level led (4) sets.
Yikes! Got a BSOD a few minutes ago :dread:
Laptop?
Are you still running win7?
Desktop. and yeah win 7 ultimate.
Looks like it was an Nvidia driver. Everything's fine now.
Think I was just pushing it too hard.
