To reformat, just restart with the CD in, and then when it asks you if you want to make partitions or whatever, more like on which partition to install, that's when you do it. Also, I recommend you make a 15 gig partition for the OS and whatever. Then you won't lose everything the next time you reinstall your OS.

I'll check Liberal Crime Squad out, and I've heard alot of good things about Dwarf Fortress from various sources so I'll check it out.

Nethack... I will ascend someday! Damn, I've never gotten higher than floor 8 or 9 I think. Playing as a traveler is hard.

Your computer sees partitions as different HDDs. So, when you format a partition on a HDD, the rest of the stuff on that HDD isn't affected.
