Of course Blizzard would do this after seeing people sell Diablo 2 shit over the internet.
Gotta love those low drop chances.
Also it doesn't matter if serious gamers care about Nintendo or not, they are not going anywhere.

I couldn't agree more! Someone was arguing with me over how turn based RPGs are terrible because it isn't realistic to have someone stand still while you hit them. Isn't the escaping reality a major point of playing games? Anyways I really hope that people stop abusing DLC in the future. I can't believe people are paying money for a costume in something like Street Fighter when it should just be unlockable in the game. DLC could be used for so many good things and I have rarely find reasonably priced DLC.
DLC is bullshit I've been saying it since the beginning. Sure it could have decent applications (like side stories for an RPG that could be developed well after release) but greed dictates that most of it will be pointless shit or like crimsonedge mentioned earlier super powerful items that are basically the same difference as cheating. Or better yet make it so that one has to buy the DLC to be able to fully enjoy the game. A fighting game? Let's make half the roster DLC! I'm looking at you Capcom.
When everyone realizes they paid $60 for a bunch of ones and zeroes, piracy will skyrocket
Pc will never die. Even if the pc gaming dies, computers are still much better than tablets. With a pc one can do just about ANYTHING. Where is the versatility in tablets. A keyboard and mouse is much better than a touchscreen. Hardware is much better in a computer than a tablet therefore software applications can be more powerful and complex. A computer has no need for a fart application to feel like it is useful.
Nothing is hack proof. All three have modchips to either allow burned games or games from other media and gc and 360 three also have ways of software hacks to run homebrew.
Really all you're paying for is the manual, case and a blank disc. The data on it is just ones and zeroes, i.e. intagible.
Crapcorn has pretty much decided to silently kill Megaman. Expect to not see much out of him except for shovelware titles from now on. Street fighter games are all pretty much the same especially when they have the same roman numeral. The same for MvC. They're killing Dmc. Apparently they're trying to cater to Twilight fans as opposed to idk, DMC fans. Resident evil is being milked almost as bad as COD all the while completely ignoring what made RE what it is. I swear if the next RE features evil Nazis instead of Zombies...
Furthermore MML has a large following. Many petitioned heavily for MML3 and when it was started, Crapcorn started something new that allowed fans to help design it. Of course not many people even knew about it as crapcorn barely ever mentioned it, even to fans that wanted MML3 or Megaman fans in general. Then after cancelling the project that many had a personal stake in, they did the unthinkable. Blame the very fans that wanted the game in the first place for not enough CLAMOUR. Hardly anyone knew of the devroom and that's how Crapcorn wanted it so they wouldn't have to release it. Looking back on all of the facts andone sees that the project was fought tooth and nail every step of the way. Executive meddling at it's worse.
On another note, yesterday was "Teabag a Capcom executive day", a monthly holiday held on the 17th for megaman enthusiasts to teabag an executive. Props are given to those wearing a megaman costume while doing it.
If one thing I know is is that making the system hard to hack is an incentive in itself to some. Hackers will hack whatever you make, all you can hope to do is stall them. Whatever you do though, don't accuse everybody of being pirates. Iron fist policies don't work. DRM increases piracy. Release complete and worthwhile games and people will buy them. Release incomplete betas with more time spent on DRM and DLC and it will get cracked and pirated. Ignore the pirates and focus on catering to the buying consumers. If you do that no effort will be spent on stopping the unstoppable and piracy will be kept at a minimum. DRM and proprietary elements never stop or even curb piracy and only increase it.
my speed. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1438222670.png
I get 5 GB a month and if I go over it my speed is crippled to dial-up levels. It's either this, some other aircard (which I have seen they all have limits and this one is the only one that doesn't charge overage fees), or satellite which is overpriced and gets no beter service and the limit is even worse.
two or so streets over get cable broadband, I'm just right outside of their coverage area.
A large portion of people don't have good connections and shouldn't be left in the wind with no games. If games are download only, many sales will be lost. Game companies only shoot themselves in the foot taking on used game sales this way.
I agree, If my ISP (cricket) didn't suck, or I had better ISP choices, I would download almost everything. Still, I shudder at downloading a behemoth like FF13. Dumping would be better for me there.
It takes ten to twenty minutes to got to the store while it may take a month to download a ten GB game. The first half could be done in less than a week. After the throttle...
I remember, there was a huge wave of platformers in the mid nineties and though you see them still today, it's no to as big a degree. Late nineties was shoot em ups. In the early nineties it was fighting games. RPGs reigned supreme on the PS2 and FPS games are the big thing here. We see that genres are a fad and games will go between them as times pass. In the future, user generated content may become big. Like mods to for pc games I see games in general having editors within to create missions similar to how Infamous 2 had one. Users could generate a mission or character or weapon or something and others could download that off the internet to increase replayability beyond the initial main game.
All the newer sports games do is update the rosters really. Once one buys one they've bought them all from that generation. All they really need to do is keep one game per sport and release a new game every three or four years and update the rosters every few months or every year. The updated rosters could be dl'd and installed from the game's menu through xbl/wiishp/psn, or the file could be installed as a separate save like one save is for progress and another is for settings and roster. Of course I don't play much sports games. In fact I think the only sports games I play are NBA Jam and Extra Innings, both SNES games and both less to do with their sports and more to do with having fun (NBA jam allows your character to catch on fire even).
I think in the future as consoles become essentially computers the line that separates them will dissipate and games will be easily ported between the two. While it is easier to pirate on pc, ignoring pc users potentially costs more money than piracy does. That's because piracy doesn't really cost anything, it isn't theft since the original product is still in the owner's hands and if piracy really costs anything, then non gamers must really break the bank for game companies (shame on you non gamers, even you granny). I don't see any of them dying, but I do see them competing more and more with hackers. If thought of in free market terms, then both sides will try to win you over with features. If you want homebrew, you side with hackers, if you want to frag some ten year olds and get your status downgraded by script kiddies, you side with the game company. If you want more privacy, you side with the hackers, if you want your credit card info plastered all over the internet, you side with the game companies. If you want complete games, you side with the hackers, if you want to buy a game only to have to buy it again you side with the game companies. if you want to just pop it in and play or just execute the install file, with no DRM and signaling the mothership involved, you side with the hackers, if you want to hassle with DRM and install limits and have your details sent back to the mothership, you side with the game companies. I think we all know who will win in the end.
I don't see how it's different from paying for a physical copy which is pretty much a disc with a data on it. You can burn your digital copy to a disc and then it's basically the same thing. The only reasons to prefer a physical copy is if you want the box on your shelf and a manual to hold in your hands (or any other collector's item that comes with it), or if your connection's too slow to make digital purchases a viable option. Which are perfectly valid reasons, mind you. Also, Steam's pretty damn successful, so people don't mind paying for a bunch of ones and zeroes, apparently.
I know. Hence why I said this.
OH no, not another mis interpreter.
Spot on mate!!, just like I said, the pc wont go anywhere, and will always have a use... BUT tablets will make the most common things pc's are used for alot easier in future- like all internet stuff.. browsing/emailing/social networking/youtube..possibly downloading/torrenting etc.. Not to mention listening to Music, watching movies, looking at pics, light gaming etc, etc... OH yeah and being able to take it almost anywhere, so things like GPS, 3G, etc come into play too.
"Where is the versatility in tablets".. if thats not versatility, then I dont know what your definition of versatility is......I suppose you are content sitting at a pc doing all this stuff for the next 10 or years then.
I said Tablets, smart phones, internet TVs will make the pc less usefull.. like I mention above... and stop all you guys saying "what about KB/mouse".. there is a KB's for some tablets and mice may come too. PC 's will be more for video editing or more servere program use only, in future. *I think*.. and superior consoles will strip it of its crown in for best gaming eperience.
All these will have a detrimental effect on the pc and it will become more of a background item, only used vaguely.
ffs!.. I mean proper hacking, to play backups "piracy".. I know hacking a system is something to do, but doing it with the intent to let people run backups of originals is what I'm taling about. The mod chips just bypass security and let it boot the disc, but it wont boot any disc, only what it is made to boot.
That is what a hacker looks at first. A means to boot a backup.. should it be burning it to a supported format or memory card booting it.-"incentives"
If you can eradicate incentives for a way to run burnt games, and leave only possible ways to run homebrew stuff... then piracy doesnt really come into play, does it?.. look at the snes for example, believe it or not it was hackable, but expensive to do so. All you need was a Dremel tool to cut the cartridge open, then desoslder the rom chip, read it on a pc making a copy, then get an eeprom chip, program it with whatever rom images youve dumped, put it into the cartridge and run a game.... so is that worth doing?..NO!!!.. see, incentives are relevant.. it was just too much of a big deal back then to do that. But now flash carts with SD memory and redesigned PCBs make those systems now hackable for that reason. That was the "incentive" behind the guy who decided to make the flashcart.
Well ,I believe, hackers can be beaten physically. We all know software has loopholes, but making something estremely hard to get at to see how it works can be a big help. Look at the CPS3 system, it was tamperproof for years, and that was 15 yrs ago. They couldn't get their teeth into itto see how it all communcated with itself to then emulate. As it just killed itself, rendering it useless and non readable... but some guy with an incentive - good skill and all the right equipment finally sussed it. But remember it did its job.
So if a console is locked to a proprietary disk format and has no means of memory inputs and has some sort of security screws that cut trips security sensors when removed, so console cant be opened.... just where does the incentive to decide to hack it come from?.. are you gonna get a dremel and cut it open to try to interface the disk drive..what if it fails(tamperproof)..buy another, start again??.. ok lets say you finally get a game dump, then what?..How are you gonna run it?.. replace the disk drive?? ..what if the system is made to reject it... what if the image is too big to run on any other disk format.... and this is before you even talk about the disk-hole counter measures that I mentioned.
Would that not put some hackers off?... it did for the CPS3 and cartridge based systems back in the day.
Yeah, you're right it is just another way to get the game back into the top ten for that christmas etc.... they bring out the new game with updated season rosters. But remember, some people actually like it this way believe it or not.
Also, if say someone bought FIFA 03, but 8 years later someone who wants to get into FIFA walks into a game shop and asks"where is FIFA 03?".. that would be stupid. It would be off the shelves years ago for all the right reasons. The yearly updates aren't all that bad when you think about. You dont have to buy it yearly if you dont want too. But Alot of people who may not have played it before or not in years, WILL buy it.
And that is what Pro evo soccer did for a long while on the ps2, they only brought out a new one every few years, up until about 2008, that is when they seen that it can be done yearly, and works to bring in money.
If you can see through this, then just dont buy into it.
That is just fucking crazy right there. We aren't talking a priceless statue that gets its photo taken then copied/made out of clay by some sculpturer and then sold for much less. We are talking the product of a company here- You seem to have a real weird outlook of software., even with your "ones and zeros" comment.
The point is, games are like movies. A bunch of people work hard to make the game what it is, and obviously were paid whilst doing so, which is all funded for, sometimes up to 100 million, for games like GTA4. So does this not have significance?
They obviously want to atleast make the funded cash back, and then as much profit on top of that possible, as to make the whole purpose worth while and to make a business out of it, which then brings about more games, spin off companies, failing companies/studios being bought out/over etc, etc...
WHy did you merge 2 different parts of my post into one confusing quote??
And what the hell are you on about "nonsense"?.... What is nonsense about what I said?.... Just what are YOU talking about saying "1.6 million copies need sold to break even"?.. Errrr, what???
Anyway, yeah CPS3 WAS tamperproof, it is still a prime example that "they" couldnt get around the tamperproof hardware of it to make hacked roms like they did with CPS1 and all the SF2 hacks.....so.....
And by the way it was for the emulation world, and the system could be bought/ordered when in it's prime back in the day when no one could emulate it, and when out a few years could easily be got on ebay etc.... And even then took a loooooong time for someone to get a dump and emulation of its workings.
Oh cocky now, are we??
Well doofus, I was pointing why he said " he wants proof before he believes such nonsense"
I didnt get why he said that after saying 1.6 mil need sold to break even..... Everything in his post is rather kryptic and not very to the point of what he means
Oh and by the way, i refered to how gta4 cost upto 100m to produce. Not all games obviously cost this. Still they need to sell them to make ammends. Nonsense??.... The more a game costs to make, the more you have to hope it sells.. Nonsense??
Oh yeah, and what is this "proof" he seeks before he believes something... Or something?
Oi, chill bro. I was simply pointing out where he got 1.6 million copies, since you asked what he was talking about with that line specifically. Interestingly enough, GTA4 sold 20 million copies. 3.7 on launch day.
Also, kryptic should be cryptic, unless you're trying to draw some kind of parallel between Shard and Superman.
I was moreless asking WHY he said it. On the back of saying i was talking nonsense.... But what nonsense?.... And what proof does he need to believe this nonsense?.... See that is what i was asking with my post and is STILL unclear what his overall post means.
K is C..... Mortal Kombat style. KRYPTIC!!
Some games don't cost anywhere near 100m to make. Might cost that much for a Final Fantasy, or a Metal Gear Solid, or a new Halo game. It would be unrealistic and way too risky to put that kind of money on the line just based on a gamble, or that you think it might sell. Its one of the reasons I'm not involved on sales, I am a person who doesn't like taking risks, especially with a lot of money.
GTA IV broke first week sales records I think. I mean shit it's GTA, all the tools need that on release day.
i never understood the attraction to gta... hell i can get a sealed collectors edition of it right now for $20 if i wanted it
First of all go fucking google the highest budget games list, the list can be seen.
Second, no company knows if it will be profitable, again you are too retarded to even understand what the POINT is behind my posts... but that's OK that seems to be a trend on this forum with me.
I said GTA4 cost 100mil as a reference that games are now like movies with the budgets they are produced under... its fact that when it comes down to it a company WILL go 100mil, it would be all the same if I said games are made for 10-20 mil, because then that would give you the perfect sarcastic angle to say "actually GTA4 cost 100mil and other games cost a lot more than 10mil also"... isn't that the sort of remark I'm use to seeing in replies to me?.. its a lose lose no matter what I point out as someone always looks for the obviousness in going against anything I say, even to the point they make themselves out as retarded in doing so, why?, because they are ganging up on me perhaps?... and yet no one ever points out THEIR retardedness, just like you asking me for a list of costs. If I said that, everyone who read it would be lining up to post with the obvious list that sits on lots of sites, and is just a google search away.
To go against you saying a game dev would never develop something unless they new it would beat its budget.. well then retard why do companies go bankrupt from lack of sales?..Isn't that an easier way to look at it?... Fuck Shenmue cost 70million to make(95mil in todays cash lol) and whats funny about that is they KNEW it would never make a return by the amount of Dreamcasts sold, in fact it would have had to be bought twice by every DC owner to turn a profit, which is asking a lot.... so there goes your whole bullshit argument saying a company wont develop something unless a big return is in the works.. even as far back as the DC days.
And you even missed another point within a point I was making, in that Rockstar funded 100mil for GTA4, because that's what I was getting at too, with their success of the GTA games from 15yrs back they are now atleast ready to fund 100mil for a game because it is somewhat worth it.. does that not atleast say to you what a company is willing to do if they can see a return... as apposed to all these moaners saying companies are taking and conning us with cheap knock offs... or "betas" as one put it*rolls eyes*
And this goes hand in hand with movie making, how many movies over the years DID NOT see the return epected and have flopped at the box office?.. even big hitter sequels and series. And stop fucking saying GTA games arent good, they ARE fucking good. I fucking hate all these wannabe emo hardcore gamers thinking they know it all because they sit in their pyjamas with their stupid RPG's in the same over used fantasy world, with the same virgin loving sexual themed story line and pitiful sad musical scores they always seem content to want to buy on cd afterwards, yet they dis GTA....UGH....
nowadays companies WONT take big risks like sega did with shenmue, besides that was a HORRIBLE example considering segas Current state after their demise/demotion to software developer rather than leadig console develeoper
The current shift into gimmicks is far from over, I would think. Both Kinect and Move were a response to Nintendo's huge casual gamer following. The Wii U, Nintendo's gambit to do just the opposite- tap into the hardcore gamer following that both Sony and Microsoft now dominate - will definitely have a steep climb to reach the level of their competitor's successes. In five years, I predict that we will still stand divided between the Next Box and the PS4, while Nintendo will continue the same strategy that has kept them in busines for over 100 years... namely, ignoring market trends, and following their own agendas. Against this backdrop will be the PC gamers, who will continue MMORPGing well into the next decade. On the mobile front, third party developers will have an even larger presence on your phone and mobile device. I just hope that every game (that will be) developed on the NEXT Unreal Engine (and there will be dozens) won't look like carbon copies of one another. In short, I expect more of the same. The greatest/worst thing about the gaming indusrty is the sheer size and diversity of the consumer base. One one hand, this supports many different hardware platforms, insuring a large enough market for everyone. On the other hand, in order to satisfy this huge consumer base, the gaming industry leans to quantity-over-quality, cookie-cutter cloned games, often released without proper Beta testing, against crushing deadlines, or suffering from lackluster (or worse yet, nonexistent) support. That's how I see it......
Also, with Shenmue they had started development before they realize the ship was sinking.
At that point, it was damage control. By releasing it they could at least make back some of the development cost.
This is also why SIII will never, ever, ever happen.
Can't be arsed to read all that above, but:
http://www.npd.com/press/releases/press_080821.html - 6.2 million only in 2008. Apparently.
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...ever-developed
So yeah, it did sell a shitton of copies. Still, Const. Rat needs to take a chill pill. Otherwise people won't ever take you seriously.
Jesus Christ, calm down.Quote:

Oh Yeah no probs, how about the next time you take a crap you just sit there on the Shitter and phone me and I'll come over and wipe your ass for ya!!
OH, is it a "HORRIBLE" example, is it??.... And who the fuck mentioed RISK in those respects??.. all I did was say that GTA4 cost 100mil as an example against how it can be compared to big budget movies. I never said all games made cost an average of 100 mil or anything like that.
If you were to talk about "RISK" in the way you mean it, then how about Halo 3.. Halo 2 was a bad sequel, so isnt spending BIG like they did on Halo 3 a RISK??... but that isnt what I was going about saying in the first place anyhow, I'm only saying it as it goes directly against your bullshit "companies WONT take big risks" comment... well then theres another for the record... or is that just another "HORRIBLE" example?
My point is gaming companies with the right direction arent crapping out on people, and that can be seen in the big budget games... even typical games and sequels still cost a lot of mil and of course they hope to get a big return, what is the problem with that??.. at least they are willing to cough up the cash to make something of that cost. .. People like saying the GTA games are the same thing everytime. Still they triy to move it onwards and put 100 million into getting it made and out.. what exactly do people want or expect now a days??

seriously rat? normally im against calling people fanboys but your kinda acting like one, aside from that i NEVER said that you mentioned risk, I NEVER said anything regarding what you mentioned about the 100mil budget, as for Halo 2, you may not like it but it sure as hell sold well, and when a game sells well then it gets a sequel or re-release
all that aside NO ONE is trying to start a fight with you, you are just being rude, overbearing, and trying to pick a fight
The 30 minute thing was a random number. You need to chill out man, you're wound up so tight.
Also, you're using faggot in a derogatory sense. What if I was a homosexual, would that actually change anything? I don't think so.
Well obviously I'm done posting towards him.
Hopefully gaming doesn't end up in this thread in 5 years
Knock this shit off. Now. Breathe, calm down, whatever.
Personally I see video games still being popular in five years, will it be as popular as it is now? I don't know but frankly that doesn't really matter to me, since video games will still be around and I'll for the most part still be interested in them in someway or another and to me that is all that matters.
Alright, seriously. If you see trolling going on, don't encourage it by leaving troll bait around. Especially if a member of staff has just responded to the situation by posting a warning. It causes just as much clutter and nonsense as the troll itself does.
Let's not have any more off-topic posts. And this applies not only to Rat.
Nintendo is playing it smart by going with the Wii this generation, which is basically a fancy Gamecube(which is why Dolphin emulates Wii and Gamecube). Why? Because there will only be one more generation of consoles which use silicon chips, leaving Nintendo with an entire generation which Sony and Microsoft have nothing new to compete with. So, Nintendo wins the silicon based console competition in the end by purposely being a generation back at this time.
The future will include cloud based gaming platforms such as Gaikai, and PC gaming will become more prevalent. Especially with the advent of quantum computers and the first working models being built now which can make games as realistic as real life. While console gaming should be entering another bust as was experienced in the 80s until there are quantum computers inexpensive enough to market as consoles/toys.Quote:
Silicon-based computing will reach it's maximum capability by 2020. What that means is that there is possibly going to be one more generation of consoles after this one and we're reaching the maximum performance games can have. The gaming and computing industry is in for a big bust in a few years, prices on computers and consoles will drop dramatically however because there won't be any improvement in computational power until we develop functional quantum computers.
