Fixing the New Tread problem should be #1 on the list OR Alternatly make a new user have say... 10 good post before allowing them to start a new thread.
I know someone here has been to emuasylum. They have an avatar system based on post count... Not a big deal but they progressively let you have better and better avi's based on your post count. Until you reach... Im not sure what theirs is... its a retarded amount of post, before you can post your own. 100 sounds like a good count to me. Theirs is like 1000 though. Again not a big deal, but when I join a forum I like to have an avi and stuff so people can identify with me and I dunno Ill feel unique, and that would help get people posting.
The whole idea with the arcade is a neat idea. Might help, might just suck up bandwidth...
This is off the top of my head but how about you only give files to members of the forum?
Animeflix.info has something like this. They dont let you stream untill you have 200 post on the forum. Again a retarded number for something like streaming anime since by the time you get to 30 or so your like forget it and leave. (which is what happened with me, seeing that I didnt think I would ever get to 200) A reasonable # could be required. Say at the very LEAST an introduction?
Emuasylum also has ISO rips for sega CD, and Neo Geo CD, as well as some other stuff. but they charge a monthly fee for their ISOs. How about instead of charging a fee for ISOs, let people DL SNES/NES/GEN/MS you know older stuff, but make them be an active member for ISOs... Hell you could even give them the rips for free to whet their tastebuds... then make them be members for the full ISOs...
BTW the "what car is this" thread is awesome we should keep that one going.
Hope someone reads this...
Good stuff, especially the avatar suggestion. Its little touches like that which retains interest, I say.
We had a post restriction on Avatars before, didn't we?
You also couldn't get into some places without 300 posts or something like that.
I remember that there wasn't a major problem with n00bs back then either...
It was 150 to get into the trading post. At least at first. We later brought the requirement down to just 50.Quote:

We had people bitching about the rule all the time, PM'ing us to complain and spamming to hit the post count. I think we ended up banning more people to enforce that silly rule, then for any other reason. Things got so bad that people were complaining that the board just wasnt a fun place to be, and so we got rid of the posting restriction, and lightened up a bit on spam. IMO it's been better for the board as a whole. We still have the occasional problem, but it's nothing we can't handle.
Now if we just get the bugs worked out, everything will be great.
How did I not notice this thread before
I liked the old post requirement for custom avatars. Anybody that would spam just for a avatar is a freak, most everybody else would see a perk for sticking around.
I was against a BT ratio tracker the last couple times it was brought up, but actually right now our unique peer count is actually higher than it was the day Suprnova died (by about 100) :D Meaning people are actually getting out and looking around now that SN is gone. A member only tracker could hold some people here. Although I still don't want the tracker switched to private. Just a members subsection or maybe another server running a differnet tracker script or something. I have no idea how to go about doing such things, but I'd enjoy being able to kick users with low share ratios
Edit: Oh and fixing the damn posting bugs is the #1 thing to do. Bah the forum shows Cybers post as the most recent in this thread and my post didn't bump this thread up in the recent post list...
Bumped. :P
Yeah, that bug is annoying. Now, I only write "to be edited" in everything or almost i post, then i edit and paste what i want to say. This way it bugs less.
I think Theotheimpaler was the first one to do that stuff, big kudos to him. :)
I beleive a section of the tracker should be private, so good/confirmed members could share rarest/most popular/biggest stuff in there.
Sometimes is see a Final Fantasy 7 torrent on the web, and it has 12873189794792384 completions, 6375 leechs but like 10 seed. @_@
I know we cannot have any ff game on the tracker, but it does the same thing for every few cd games.
The avatar idea is a good one, I think everyone agrees no one would spam like hell only to get a custom avatar, and get banned.
But anyway, i really think the bug should be worked on first, I know it's annoying for everyone.
I should clarify that the post requirements I spoke of pertained to the Trading Post. I actually think it might be a good idea to have a requirement for custom avatars. I don't think it would exactly entice people to stick around, but it certainly couldn't hurt.Quote:

Heiliger equals victory.
The posts for stuff thing... I believe in that one, in short.
As for the publicity. How about at some point having this site/forum completely legal? That way, a banner more or less anywhere should be fine. I have no idea about how possible that is, but I stay here for the community, not the files, and I think many others do and would.
Oh, how about some new special user titles? I don't know, but yeah.
Wholeheartedly seconded. My interest in emulation faded out a long time ago - but the forums retain a special charm that keeps me coming back. Problem is most people wont come here without the enticement of 'FREE ROMZ' etc.Quote:

Ok I agree and disagree with going legal. I agree obviously because of the advertising issues. I disagree because as soon as we do that we loose what make emuparadise a GREAT site... There are about 100000000000 legal rom sites out there, and the second we lose our ISOs we become just another one of them...
BUT there is hope. Mayhap we dont have to LOSE the ISOs rather than just HIDE them. I dont know mabey set up like some kinda mIRC channel where you can still get the ISOs... Actually thats not a bad idea. Lose the ISOs and advertise = we get more visits + People wanting ISOs = still happy + hidden ISOs = no future legal trouble...
BRILLIANT!
If we lose the ISO's, we lose the point in advertising. Who's going to visit the site or sign up on the board, when the ISO's are on IRC? Doesn't it stand to reason that they'd just go there, bypassing both the board and the site altogether? Unless.....we don't just hand out the IRC info to just anybody, and require them to post on the board first. We could also require them to post regularly, or risk being banned from the channel.
Eh, that might not work though. Hmn.
That was more my point than anything. I think it would work. Bring them in with quality roms for other systems, but dont advertise ISOs on the main site. Advertise them in the forum.Quote:
