Child's Play 1-3. Wish I had a Chucky doll
Just seen True Romance and after watching this movie I thought to myself why the eff didn't I hear about this movie before. Maybe thinking it was a chick flick or something but wow amazing movie Quentin Tarentino is an amazing Producer!
So I watched Die Hard for the first time ever. Yes, in 2013.
Only 25 or so years late to the party
Did you enjoy it?
In the last couple of weeks, I've watched:
Hitchcock (2012) - 2/5
Silver Linings Playbook (2012) - 4/5
Double Trouble (1992) - 2/5 (5/5 if you're in an 80's cheese mood)
DC Cab (1983) - 3/5 (same as above)
Dead Heat (1988) - 3/5 (see above)
So yeah, I was in an 80's mood, and that seems to be about all Netflix streaming offers anyway - kind of a waste of $7.95 a month.
Pretty much.
And yeah, I liked it, gonna watch the rest of the series too.
Dead Heat, or more specifically the scene where that chick rots away in the shower used to terrify me as a child. When I watched it again all grown-up, it was just funny.
War Horse (2011)
It was really good.
(4/5)
Horrible Bosses (2011)
It was good.
(3'5/5)
Albert Nobbs (2011)
It was fine.
(3/5)
I just remembered a couple of other movies I saw recently:
Steele Justice (1987) - 2/5 - Oh, so bad, but so great at the same time - it stars the Cobra Kai Sensei from Karate Kid.
Commando (1985) - 4/5 - Classic Schwarzenegger
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1989) - 5/5 - Man, I remember hating this as a kid, but seeing it recently made me rethink that opinion. This is a smart, fantastic movie that wasn't meant for kids in the first place
Cool World (1992) - 2/5 - I always wanted to see this movie, but pretty much forgot all about it, and after watching Roger Rabbit I tracked this sucker down. It's pretty bad, and that's a shame because there's a lot of really good ideas in this movie, it's just executed so poorly. Animation and live action don't match well, a lot of the story doesn't make much sense and feels really cut up, and Brad Pitt is just terrible in this movie. How he ever became a star after this is beyond me.
Had a bit of a Pegg/Frost marathon.
Shaun of the Dead.
Hot Fuzz.
Paul.
Went through all the Indiana Jones movies recently too.
Also,
X-files Fight the Future (I think it's called)
I watched the new Hobbit movie that I dl'd, Lots of Dwarves and Orcs!, For some reason the main Orc was White.
This wild shit:

I can't believe I was up until 3:00 am watching this off of showtime :nosweat:
In the last 2 weeks I've watched a fair few movies, so time to catch up!
Trading Places (1983) - 5/5 - classic Eddie Murphy (before he became a bitch) and Dan Aykroyd
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) - 5/5 - Another classic comedy - John Candy is priceless in this one
The Stuff (1985) - 2.5/5 - decent gore effects, but not enough of it.
Creepshow 2 (1987) - 2/5 - Shouldn't even share the Creepshow name with the awesome 1982 original - this movie is pretty weak.
Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke (1978) - 5/5 - THE classic comedy stoner flick.
Far Out Man (1990) - 1/5 - Real bad, even for Tommy Chong. Don't waste time with it.
Killer Klown's from Outer Space (1988) - 4/5 - This used to scare the shit outta me when I was young. It's pretty amusing now though
Leon the Professional (1994) - 3.5/5 - It's good, but not nearly as good as everyone remembers. This is one of those movies where people seem to view it through rose-tinted glasses all the time.
Maximum Overdrive (1986) - 4/5 - Awful movie, but so bad it's good. The soundtrack alone kicks serious ass, and the gore is pretty great.
I saw Cat's Eye-It's a collection of Steven King short stories connected by a cat. Not bad, I guess.
Deadtime Stories- fairy tales with a horror twist. It was ok,but dumb.
Watched the abominable dr phibes. Fun film. Completely cheesy and its bad how they can convince you that the bats and rats in that film were terrifying. Still, a good way to kill an hour and a half and I'd recommend watching it at least once.
I finally watched The Godfather for the first time. I LOVED it.
The 3rd one however...just, avoid that disaster. I don't know how they made such a horrible movie really.
Goodfellas was 'good', definitely not great or anything, but a fun movie.
I'm delaying watching Casino because we watched all of Evangelion and now we're deep into Higurashi.
And yeah, I love these kinds of movies, Scarface reigns as my all time favorite. Well I kind of just love Al Pacino.
A Good Day To Die Hard. Meh 2/5
The Professional. WOW. 4.5/5
Watched Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla- It was entertaining, I don't know why Mechagodzilla chose what looks like a metal paperweight to assist him. sigh. Still, I enjoyed it.
Bourne Identity
Bourne Supremacy
Bourne Ultimatum
Hobbit - meh
Man on the moon - hrm
Trading Places - yay
Gangster Squad.
Expected it to be pretty terrible, but it was ok really.
Death becomes her.
48 hours.
Bull Durham.
Dirty rotten scoundrels.
Just finished up the 2nd X-files movie. I was going to wait until I finished the series (halfway through season 7) but said the hell with it. Saw it not long after it came out but was pretty sure I was drunk and stoned and don't remember a bloody thing except that dudes head near the end. Anyhow I liked it. Obviously not a huge budget movie or anything and it was definitely more like a long episode. It was a little more "normal" as in no aliens or monsters. Their ages are really starting to show too. Scully still got it going on though :P Not bad not bad. 3/5
Also it seems there's a tentative plan for a 3rd, could be a few years but I'm sure they'll trot one out every now and again until they're really too old to do them. But then again you never know. Scully and Mulder could have a kid or something who grows up with crazy stories of his parents and joins the FBI or something and keep things going when they're too old to or even dead to play the parts. Or a reboot which given the status of movies these days is entirely within the realm of possibility. And pisses me off to no end too :P
I didn't even know there was a second X-Files movie, and that it was released in 2008 just blows my mind. I don't remember seeing it anywhere - no trailers, not at the video store, etc.
Anyway, I recently watched Jacob's Ladder and Boogie Nights. Both excellent films.
finally saw V for vendetta last night and it was pretty good (that was one of the seldom times i watch tv). i was going to check out the new evil dead a few minutes ago but it seems the only video of it floating around the internet currently is a video camera recording. same recording, spammed everywhere, saw 90 links on a site i like watching movies at and all were that same exact recording so i'll wait for the dvd since noone else seems to have a decent quality version yet.
with evil dead (real loosely based on the original if i understand the plot right >.> ) out for now, i guess i'll check out something else.
Stand By Me is a great movie as well.
I've seen Boogie Nights about 100 times over the years, and I absolutely love all of PT Andersons other movies, with the exception of The Master.... I was kind of disappointed in it. It had some good ideas, and fantastic performances, but ultimately fell pretty flat. Boogie is probably my fav of his.... you can't get a much better ensemble cast than what that movie offers, not to mention there are soooooo many little things going on in it that you almost always catch something new. Magnolia is a lot like that too - I always find new stuff during a repeat viewing.
I don't re-watch half as many films as I should. I loved boogie nights, everything from the soundtrack to the cast was great, the film was incredibly entertaining. The Master as a film to me felt like a bit of a disappointment to me too, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would even though it had a great cast but I might like it again if I re-watch it. Also There will be Blood is still my favourite PTA film.
I really want to like The Master, but I can't bring myself to watch it again - at least not for a few years anyway. I can't say enough good things about TWBB - Day Lewis really makes that movie. I really enjoyed Punchdrunk Love too - Adam Sandler was phenomenal in that role, and the movie was just so surreal. Have you ever seen Hard Eight/Sidney? I've only seen it once, a long time ago, but I remember it actually being really good, especially for his first movie. It had John C Reilly in it and FLoyd Gondoli from Boogie (can't think of his real name right now).
Yes, Punchdrunk love was brilliant and Sandler can actually act, unlike Anniston who was the same as usual. I have seen Hard Eight and you're thinking of that old actor aren't you, he is a fantastic actor. Maybe I'll see The Master in a few years and like it more.
Do you have any film recommendations Flavaflave?
What kind of movies are you after? Since you like PT Anderson stuff, I'll assume you like movies that either really make you think, have layers, or really good character development. Some of the stuff I can recommend that isn't exactly mainstream (i.e. Braveheart, Alien) would be Old Boy, Disconnect (just came out a week ago), Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom (in fact, pretty much anything by Wes Anderson), Seven Psychopaths, Moon, Another Earth, Arbitrage and High Fidelity. Let me know if any of these spark your fancy.
Old Boy, Disconnect, Royal Tenebaums, Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom, Seven Psychopaths, Moon, Another Earth, Arbitrate, High Fidelity, Maryrs and Confessions/Kokuhaku. I've seen about half to three quarters of those films and enjoyed a lot of them I will give Disconnect, Arbitrate, High Fidelity & Another Earth a shot some time now. They're the ones I haven't seen. Thanks.
Just got back from Iron Man 3. Thoroughly enjoyable :)
I saw Pain and Gain over the weekend - I had a lot of fun with it. It's just a bank heist movie with a bunch of morons that live in muscle beach Florida, but the performances are good and pacing is well done. I'd say 3.5/5
