Just hit it with a hammer Roxas
It needs the golden rain
Oh boy, watching the Youtube comments section of Hitler speeches is seriously wtf. It's like the worst of humanity concentrated into one digital space.
Holocaust denial is just stupid.
Although some civilians in some areas only knew certain "undesirables" were being deported to work camps, many people had an idea of what was going on. But the thing to keep in mind is that it wasn't only Jews being taken away.
It's easy to say that anyone that stood by and let stuff happen was complicit...but some people were given a choice to live, conform and not draw attention to themselves.
Even the Wehrmacht did some bad stuff because some officers gave orders. The SS officers were pretty consistently bad.
But the German people (and occupied territories) were basically guilty of not questioning authority enough, and in great enough numbers. Maybe some wanted what happened, but a lot just didn't want to get into trouble themselves and wanted to be "normal".
Which, when you think about it, can happen in many countries even now. Not saying that any country now has concentration camps and execution chambers...but I hope you understand what I'm on about.
Gareko-chan~
Yeah. Pretty much easier to stay in the shadows or even feign ignorance because it's safer, probably a pretty common thing even today honestly.
Maybe the numbers aren't accurate (6 million?), maybe they are. But yeah I seriously doubt it didn't happen. But then you see people say stuff like "not a single Jew died because of the Nazis" and you just shake your head.
Yeah, denial is stupid but having that opinion and it being illegal is restricting freedom of speech.
People can say they love satan, or be scientologists ffs
Anyway, like I said the "holocaust" isn't just about Jews.
And there have been other instances of mass murder in history but none were as well documented.
Because the Germans are very organised and methodical.
DL beat me to it, if people tolerate Scientology they can tolerate Holocaust deniers as well.
Yes, there were Gypsies and homosexuals and basically anybody who Hitler didn't like went into the camps.
I've noticed a huge rise in Neo-Naziism on the internet this past year.
In terms of media attention the Holocaust receives a disproportionately large amount when compared to the Holodomir, Stalin's Purges, Killing field etc.
It actually really confuses me when people say they're on the fence about whether they believe the holocaust happened, or don't believe it or anything like that. Maybe I don't understand exactly what you're saying, or maybe since it was pounded into our heads in school to "never do something this terrible. We're Americans, we SAVE people, not kill them!" but I've always taken the holocaust as a concrete thing that happened.
I usually just left it at some ignorant asshole or someone like Cheezy, but seeing you guys discuss it the same way makes me really question what I've learned.
Yeah it was any minority really. Although Hitler himself told his guys to leave a few select people alone. He had a Jewish friend in particular I remember giving immunity to for reasons I can't remember. (Who eventually wound up in a camp anyway)
I remember learning about those other ones you mentioned, the stalin purges in particular, but I can't say I remember it as well since the holocaust was basically 9 and 10th grade for us Americans.
When I was in school, they really just said "looks an holocaust! is be an bad thing" and we went on to more war stuffs. I guess they still sanitized the evil out back in the 80's.
This actually got me wondering, just out of pure curiosity, how does American education treat Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Also, you would be surprised. I did a bit of Googling around out of curiosity, saw some pretty lengthy arguments on the topic on some forums. One guy was saying he didn't think it was possible not to deny the Holocaust seeing how much "evidence" was apparently against it.
Keep in mind said poster had Mussolini as his avatar, so yeah.

One of the best stand up routines on this topic.
Not sure because I'm not American.
But that stuff happened before the use of such weapons was prohibited.
So it's like; yeah, we'll hit you with this shit twice just to make sure it works ok and you get the message...we're sick of our boys dying at the hands of you tough sob's.
Ok, now nobody is allowed to use this shit.
Ok, I shouldn't have said "prohibited" because there isn't a law preventing states from using nukes, but we're talking about targeting civilian populations. Carpet bombing of cities like what happened in WWII isn't cool either.
Not really just minorities though.
If you were a German male and decided you weren't "down" with the whole "being in the military" thing, you quickly found yourself in a camp.
Which is an aspect that's kinda overlooked because there's a few countries that happen to still be big on conscription.
Also, it kinda makes it a bit harder to hate the Nazi's/WWII era Germans when you realize they were essentially victims too in a weird way.
In short, Hitler hated the shit out of those damn dirty hippies.
The History-Out: We're actually talking about serious stuff for a change.
If von Stauffenberg were still alive, which anime would he like.
Discuss.
I dunno, Hellsing?
See, I picture him as more of a K-On kinda guy.
Might be the eyepatch.
Spoiler warning:
I rest my case.
