Artemis' blade? Eh, it's alright. It gets slightly more useful when you hit the cliffs since a few of the monsters get upgrades. Also, army of hades and or poseidon's rage. Upgrade it to level 3 or kiss your chances of finishing the game goodbye.

That's correct. However you don't spend a lot of time in a city, and that city is already pretty far into the combat, so the people probably already fled. You do however have to kill a few "bystander like" people in order to progress. I won't spoil it, but it happens. And they tend to beg you not to kill them while you're leading them to their death.

Keep multiple saves this time. That way backtracking is easier. Never play an RPG without at least 3 save files. So sayeth the ray. Also, make sure you get the dknight DS this time. That thing rapes everything. EVERYTHING!!

Indeed. I keep multiple saves of anything that is long. It sucks to go back, but sucks worse to restart.

And yes. I recommend Fer have maybe 1 save at the beginning of a chapter, 1 save in the celsius before going somewhere, and 1 dungeon save. That's the way I did it anyway.
