X Box 360 or Playstation 3

Humm... you know, I guess this next generation console war will be kinda different than it is right now. The Xbox360 didn't have a nice initial line-up, except for PGR 3 IMO, but they have some nice games coming next year, including some that are made by famous japanese game designers for the japanese people, appealing for a public that didn't accept their previous system.

The PS3 with all this new technology packed including the still highly expensive BRD media format will drive the developers to insanity on the first years with its complex structure based on the Cell processor, and the development will be so expensive and will take so many time to produce a real work of art that some developers may simply migrate to the x360. I think it will be a nice videogame, probably the most powerful of them all, but who knows? Power is not everything.

The Revolution is something different. It is Nintendo's attempt to regain the lost territory but instead of going after the old-school, hardcore gamers, they are trying to make the gaming experience something to be enjoyed by all the family, ignoring the "uber powerful, highly expensive new generation stuff" to focus more on the playability with a new user-friendly interface. The freehand controller can be called a real revolution because it is a completely new way of interacting with games, but we have a new problem... Will it be well used? Probably first-party and maybe second-party games will, but what about the third-parties? Only time will tell...

Sorry for the long post, but this is my opinion for this next-generation war we are about to face and I think it should be mentioned before i say what will be my next console. I will wait for all of them to be released and then wait for about 6 months to see what happens, but it will probably be the Revolution beacuse of it's new way of interaction (and it will be cheaper too :P ). Maybe I will buy one of the other consoles, and if I was to choose it at this moment, it would be the PS3 (Metal Gear and Gran Turismo... humm...).

I'll get all three. Yeah, call it a cop-out if you must, but...I dunno. I dont think there's any reason why I shouldn't this time around. Each system will offer something that the other two dont, especially the Revo with it's nifty remote controller thingy, and as long as I keep this job I'll have the money for 'em, so yeah, I figured why the hell shouldn't I buy them all? It's not like I'm a system-centric nut-job anyway. Though I'm not sure if I used the word "centric" right, so yeah.

It's a tough choice out of the xbox 360 and ps3, ps3 is obviosly gonna be better but I won't be able to back up my games as easy as might be possible on the 360. DVD and Blue ray both have their benefits, I'll probly end up with both consoles.

Another thing about Revolution graphical capability is the recent Nintendo patent on a new displacement mapping graphical technology. You don't need as much processor capability, but RAM is a bit of a bottleneck, apparently. I'll see if I can find the stories on it later. I think it was one of the fora that I look into once a month at most, but I can't seem to track it down (probably because I have to be very bored to look in on most of them as a spur-of-the-moment thing, so I remember only a couple at any given time)...

-ps3 for those who are seeking the best possible hd experience ever. You get a controller that fits the shape of your hand perfectly, you get the best support for hd, that's including future 1080p and hd dvd's. Wireless controllers are standard, and it also plays ALL ps1/ps2 games, unlike the xbox and it's limited backward compatibility, which also requires a hd to use that "feature". PS3 will have more than a bunch of FPS and it will have all of my favorite games, and then some. Every format xbox supports, ps3 will support also, go ahead and add BluRay discs, oh yea and blue tooth. With BD you don't have to compress game files, which will allow for faster loading times and hardly, if any loading screens during the game since streaming will be easier than ever. Game developers can add more detail to a game without worrying about space on a disc, although they will probably never fill a BD disc.

Bottomline, PS3 will become leader and then Xbox360/Revolution will battle it out for 2nd, in which I think this time Nintendo comes out ahead of Microsoft.

You know how people call the Xbox360 a Xbox1.5, well they weren't lying even if they were being sony/nintendo fanboys. Again get the 360 if you just can't wait to experience a bit of what next gen has to offer, but for the people who know what they want, they'll wait at least until spring of next year.

Just think of these exclusives:

GTA, MGS, FF(although they're making ANOTHER FFXI for 360), and GT. You can't forget all the other tons of RPG's out there that aren't for Xbox. Hopefully the Ratchet series will continue. These are not just the games I like, but a few of the PS3 exclusives. Sure Xbox has Halo, but honestly how much better, if it even is, is it than Unreal(PS3), Quake, CoD, or BF?

rumor, not confirmed fact, ps3 will be sold at a loss for under $400 which means it could be $299 or $399. Oh yea, ATI's partner just joined Nvidia, who is supporting the PS3.

Indeed, perhaps. Shiny graphics and processing capability can also allow a developer to present their work in the most beautiful manner, perfectly complementing the ideas and dreams behind the game with a great presentation. This is true for the X-Box 360 and PS3 both in particular, as they both use it as a selling point, but I wouldn't say that it's the only reason. Games exclusively for the console will also serve as a crucial draw for people, and to claim it's only for people interested in the latest "shiny" is a bit foolish.

OK, here I can actually argue a bit more enthusiastically, because there's something solid. I'd say the controls are only limited by what will fit to the person, as anything could be plugged into the base controller theoretically. I'd also point out that getting emulators working on a PC can be a bit of a drag to the uninitiated and veteran both, and this has also the benefit of legality. "No, officer, I know I have 50 GB of Nintendo ROMs and emulators for all their major systems, but they were from perfectly legal transactions between myself and Nintendo." The audience here may not care as much, but for your average person, such a system is a lot more important.

Ooh, now we hit classification of fighting style. You say in particular that wireless control is standard, ignoring the same detail in the Revolution (though you call that one inadequate despite an expansion feature missing in the PS3). The Blu-Ray technology is quite new, more expensive than its counterpart, and not as necessary even compared to the regular DVD given the half-life of a console and even modern space requirements for a given game. The production cost of the system is significant in comparison to its competitors, and it is likely this will be reflected in the retail price. Backwards compatibility is a very nice feature, but isn't it, to you, "what emulators are for"? Detail will also be limited by developer efficiency in creating the code and renders, as well as the capabilities of the system itself, where it only exceeds the XBox in some ways, not all.

Hmmm...do I sound like I favoured the Revolution a bit? I don't really care for the XBox, and I can't argue for the PS3 since that's his stance...oh, well; I should have just left it to the experts. :)

Wouldn't it be nice if a pc emulated ps2/xbox/gamecube games? Maybe a few years or later down the road...

Zephyr I'm not a fanboy, I have nothing against microsoft or nintendo. I loved nintendo until the 64 came out. I had the nes, snes, virtual boy, gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advanced sp. I also had ps1 and have a ps2. My sister has a gamecube and I play it sparingly. Fanboys say that ps3 pwns all and 360 just sucks, without providing any explanation whatsoever.

Your point? Not all PCs even emulate the generation prior to that perfectly. N64, PS1 seem to give people trouble, too, especially if they are not technically proficient beyond a passing understanding of the system...I know my first efforts in either were a pain (Though maybe Bleem era is a poor example). I'd also point out that the disproportionate evidence yield is primarily what influenced by opinion. The fact that you just seemingly dismissed the competition with a brief blurb, then went on for sentence after sentence extolling a semblance of infallibility of the PS3 is what made me make the classification I did. Fanboys don't always provide no proof, and I don't think I've found many like that. They sometimes just make it very slanted. ;)

What I don't get is how obvious the ps3 is better than the xbox, but people still think the xbox is better. Both are good systems and the ps3 may be twice as good or a little better, but in no way is the xbox = to or better than the ps3. Please tell me I'm lying to everyone when I say this. Go ahead and find a statement by a fanboy that didn't try to explain himself without just bashing another thing because he just hates it for whatever reason.

Where is your basis for this comment? I went into the nextgen with an open mind I have owned every game system there is to own (not the crappy third parties, 3DO, Tiger GFX) except for the XBOX. The only thing I like about the XBOX is Halo and I have that on my PC. Have you watched any of the Keynotes? Have you seen any actual technical coverage on these systems? Just because some of the PS3's hardware is more powerfull does not make it better. If the system is not designed to it's full potential or used to it's full potential then all of there talk is Glitz and Glam. Sony has already stated that the PS3 will not be taking full advantage of the Cell processor chip and I garauntee you that it won't be using the Nvidia chipset to it's full potential either. When it comes to the X360 and the PS3 there is also something else you have to keep in mind, with power comes drawback. If you take a certain set of hardware specs and put them into a Desktop PC and then take the same exact specs and put them into a Notebook PC the Desktop will out perform the Notebook, even though they are equal in specs. When you cram that much power into something so small you get drawbacks, overheating, mass power consumption, loss of speed, loss of graphical quality.

On emulation, if you didn't know, not even the SNES, after all this time, is 100% emulated. So speaking out for the Revolution, to have a system that Fully emulates the NES, SNES, N64 and is backwards compatible with the GameCube, I think that is great. They have also mentioned that they may be doing something that would put a face lift on those Classics (this is where they say digitally and visually remastered).

For those of you who don't know this, the Revolution will have an onboard 500MB virtual database that is expandable by an SD card (which come in the Gigs now). This virtual database will be used for storing the downloaded Classics. Also, by taking a look at the prototype pics I noticed they did not include a new port for a new type of memory card so I'm happy to say that I think they will be using this virtual database for storing your saves, that would be cool no more memory cards. This also would make trading saves much easier if you are able to tranfer them onto the expadable memory (the SD card). Also, WiFi online play for Nintendo titles will be free.

The X360 is out and even after the PS3 is out I still won't be impressed my PC will still out do them both.

There comes a point where graphics can't be improved upon anymore, and when that time comes Nintendo will speed ahead in gameplay and substance.

when graphics can't be improved upon anymore, thats when sony and microsoft will have no choice but to start making better playing games while maintaining great graphics and sound. at that point nintendo will have no choice but to begin making games with better graphics while maintaining great controls. otherwise, it'll be severely left behind against sony and microsoft.

Tool I would like you to show me proof about the information you got about the rev. Sure it will emulate nes/snes/n64, but that 500mb thing, not sure where you got it from. Since you're so smart, why didn't you add that they're going to charge for downloads that aren't from nintendo?

because most people here who've kept up with any news on the revo already knew about the charging of non nintendo made games.

Indeed, though i'm not too worried about it as I can just emulate. However those dumb enough that can't make a simple SNES emulator to work and maintain it will happily dish out some money to let other people do it for them.

This just proves my theory as to the fact that you have not followed proper news and technical info.

It is actually 512MB's of virtual memory or database and it is old news. It was posted by Nintendo at Nintendo's website. Along with a breif simple overview on what to expect of the Revolution.

if you ask me it doesn't matter about the controller at all, like the xbox controller people were all like it's too big but the grew accustomed to it .

and I myself playing from consoles like snes,sega, etc. to emulator on my keyboard i soon got use to it so personally i think the same way about the revolution controller , wow it's something new im sure i will get use to it...

For those of you saying that you want the PS3 because that is what MGS4 is going to be on think again. There is a chance it could also be on the XB360. Iluding to how similar "the PS3, 360 and PC" are, you never know, if they go a step further it might even end up on the PC.

Kojima Productions has this philosophy that we want to be the first in everything regarding new technology. So after we finished MGS3, the option was to work on the PS3 to try all the new things for Metal Gear Solid 4. The only reason for this is I'm the kind of person who wants to be the first person on the moon, and don't want to be asking 'what the moon was like?' from other people. (Shh, don't tell him.)

So yes. Metal Gear Solid 4 could work on Xbox 360 (maybe some nuance or a small detail here and there might be different) and the reason for that, apparently is that here are really no differences between the PS3, 360 and PC, although obviously Revolution is totally different.

On a side note, they do mention how they think that "the Revolution is totally different" from the others and this may be true. The thing of it is though, the hardware design and structuring was created in such a way as to make it not so much different from that of the GameCube. This was one of the goals to make the Revolution easier to code for. Similar building tools just with more power. Since the way the games will be produced will not change much, this gives the Developers the head start to jump in and start coding. With more third party companies on board this time around and the fact that it will be easier and cheaper for them to complete thier work the end result should be a great line up for launch and a good steady game flow. It also goes to show that it is possible for MGS4 to eventually also be launched on the Revolution.

While us fans of Revolution sit back and let the river of games flow over us we can also watch as the tiny stream of Xbox360 and PS3 games move at an almost agonizing slowness over the feet of all the fanboys getting their socks wet.

sure, it'll be easy for nintendo to churn out game after game for the revo considering that most of their library, just like in the past, will end up being rehashed games. yay another 3d mario platformer. woo hoo 28 more mario sports titles. yee haw the 83rd installment of mario party. omfg super mega omni smash brothers 10. yes, i'm sure we're all looking forward to many of those titles. :sick: while the 360 will concentrate on games that put to full use their online features and the ps3 will most likely release good overal games.

Yep, we get all those great titles and PLUS. If my memory serves me right there has been more Final Fantasy releases on a Nintendo based system then a Sony based system. If youv'e seen the Nintendo E3 '05' coverage Square Enix anounced that they will be fully backing the Revolution. They have also stated in other news that they love the idea of the new controler.

In other news, the anouncement that many other third parties have joined forces with Nintendo is being made aware as more and more news is released on up and coming games.

Don't forget Nintendo is also great at coming up with new and original ideas too, for example if you ever played it on the PS2 then does Super Monkey Ball ring a bell? Pikmin? Animal Crossing? Most of the time on the PS2 all i see is sequels to sequels of original games.

i've played monkey ball. i think on a DC? i may be wrong. its been a while since i played it. but i recall it being hella fun. and i've played animal crossing. quite possibly one of the worse games ever imo. so...?

although I'll probably wait a long time before I get any (still playing psx and ps2 games) I'll get whichever all the major 3rd party developers migrate to. Whichever they all choose to go to is where all the best games are going to be, as well as all the rpg's.

That said, I would prefer them to migrate to either the ps3 or nRevolution as both SONY and Nintendo have developed numerous innovative games in the past, whereas microsoft hasn't developed any decent games for the xbox, they are merely a platform.

...But Micro$oft has the great, all-purpose suggestive force know as TEH MONEYYZ$$! Hope that's not such a great factor in 3rd party relations.

I dont see why the hell this arguement still is going on. Nintendo has secrets. Sony has secrets. Hell, even MS has secrets im sure. We wont know which is "better" until the end. Fanboys fail to note all the shit thats been cut off the PS3 since e3. The only thing MS has done is delivered. They said they would make a product, and there it is. And even downplaying the Revolution is stupid, even calling it just emulation. If we want to get into rumors, its rumored that in addition to the base rom set, mods will be made available, such as new sprites, music, and themes for the roms.

My point being, wait until the crap comes out, then talk all the shit you want. Im not even going to get into all the lies and crap throughout the post.
