I tried connecting the modem directly, but it doesn't even connect to the internet when I do that. Not sure why, but I am going to try that again right now.

Reset the modem after you connect it to the PC
Ok, I did that. It took a while for it to start working again. When I want to hook my router back up do I have to put the modem back into bridge mode or whatever?
This is going to be annoying testing it like this too. It didn't mess up every game so I am going to have to play like 3 or 4 just to check.
bridge mode? I wouldn't think you'd need to do that to begin with >.>
It worked fine just hooking it straight into the modem.
Speaking of routers. I have been using a Linksys WRT54G for over 4 years now, and I have never had a problem with it. It has always worked like a charm, even with BT d/ls going, two PS3s on the PSN, and a laptop doing a remote desktop connection with one of the desktop computers, all connected wirelessly. In fact, we don't have anything hardwired into it right now.
PROTIP: Don't try to install Alcohol 120% version 1.9.3150 (or 3015, one of the two) on Vista. They don't play well together. Massive BSODs, can't even reboot in safe mode. Had to go "Last Known Good Config", and no idea if that will work next time I reboot.
Hmm, it'd be difficult to troubleshoot without being there tbqh. Try boosting the tx Power to 100% and forcing the Tx Rate to stay at 54Mbps.
I've always had bad experiences with them in the past, but from what all I've heard about them recently I'd be willing to give them another shot.
Also, I had the same router die within a year, as did it's replacement :P
Are there any different firmware versions that I could use for either my linksys or my belkin routers that might help me out? I was just reading and this guy had the same problem but with a different linksys router. http://slashstar.com/blogs/tim/archi...ys-router.aspx
So, could I try the same firmware even though it is for a different linksys router or is there anything else I could try?

probably all the information you'll ever need on linksys routers.
edit: apparently not much you can do firmware-wise with just wired routers :|
PC Upgrades
1 GB K-MEM Memory/1GB DDR2 667MHz (PC 5300)

I'm going to buy 2 of these to give me 2GB RAM in dual channel.
PowerColor X1650PRO 512MB GDDR2 128Bit DVI PCI-E Graphics card

Is this decent enough to run The Orange Box, Gears of War, Halo 2? No crazy settings or resolutions. I'm happy with 1280x800 + low-medium.
I will still be using my Pentium 4 @ 3GHz though.
edit: Once I get this graphics card I'm going to sell the one I'm currently using (Powercolor x1050 for £12 to the local computer shop). That'll pay for one of the sticks of RAM. ;D
not sure about the graphics card... i have an x1600xt that barely played halo 2 with low graphics on 1024x768
might want to consider something a little more powerful?
I was considering it with 512mb.
I would do it for the lulz but I would want another hard drive to install it onto, I don't want to lose my files or my Windows XP install. :(
edit: I would just like to prove that it is possible to run it with below the minimum requirements, I mean what does Windows XP say you need? 256? It runs fine with 96mb.
With some heavy tweaking it may run fine. But why bother, something wrong with XP?

Download. Nao.
So I fancied installing Windows 98SE under Virtual PC so I could see what it's like to be able to run a DOS game without DOSBox :p
Well, for a start I couldn't even get Virtual PC to install, it just hanged on setup...
So I got to it and took back that piece of junk router I had. I got the only other router at that walmart that I hadn't yet tried. So far it is working just fine. Logged about 6 hours on live without any problems.
