That'd be them, yes. They're pretty much the only remaining traces of the brotherhood in the region. For a reason.

The brotherhood came out to the Mojave with the intent of grabbing some tech and improving things in the region under the support of one of those wide eyed idealists (by typical/historical brotherhood standards, anyway). Pretty much a direct copy paste of what Lyons was doing in the capital wastes. While this has had some amount of success in some areas, this one happens to be a tough sell. Things obviously go far south and war breaks out with some of the other factions trying to get their hands on some priority tech. People die, shit hits the fans, and their leader kind of got a little nutty somewhere in the process.

As the only survivors of this whole thing, the HV BoS is obviously more than a little pissed off with the locals. Which leads to them behaving more like their distant forefathers than the more recent brotherhood policies (which happen to be a little bit more tolerant overall and some groups have even become outright helpful.).

Also, the BOS have been learning the hard way that they need to change. Its not like the immediate Fallout 1 era when they were stomping around confiscating tech from tribals who didn't know how to turn the damned things on. They're at odds with the NCR, a militarised faction with the numbers and firepower to hold a couple states worth of territory, as well as the Legion, the Raider groups and even the unaligned locals - and the Brotherhood has already lost two major scraps, which basically resulted in the NCR taking a whole bunch of Brotherhood gear and (badly) reverse engineering it.

So they're isolated. They barely have a replacement birth rate when they're not losing soldiers. Their tech advantage has been slowly slipping away for decades. And they're at war with pretty much every power in the Wasteland.

If they don't start loosening up, they're gone from the Wasteland within a generation or two. Extinct or forgotten, it doesn't really matter.

To add to that, the composition of their major competition has changed significantly.

Back then, the most they had to contend with were ghouls and super mutants. Sure, they were at war with them, but so was everyone else. They could safely sit back in their bunkers and watch what happens, then come out and pick up the pieces once the problem resolves itself. With their tech, they'd be quite capable of steamrolling any opposition.

But once 2 rolled around they had the Enclave to deal with. Which can best be classified as "like the BoS, but better at it and less afraid to conscript outside help". They were no longer the top of the food chain and their previous plans suddenly seemed a lot less likely to succeed. Especially once the Enclave started actively going for tech caches, several of which the Brotherhood made the mistake of sitting on top of.

From that point forth they had to contend with more human opponents. Several of whom had gotten their hands on tech adequate enough to pose a threat (at least partially because the Enclave used advanced tech to barter with raiders and the like).

Playing Duke Nukem Forever. Seems rude for the sake of being rude, something I probably would have enjoyed many years ago, but doesn't do it for me now. Also for a shooter, hasn't done anything great so far.

This game has gotten really boring now :S I'm an achievement whore and I can't see myself attempting to get the full 1000 for this game even though I think all of the achievements are single player ones.

I got back to playing the first Shin Megami Tensei for the Super Famicom and Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2. Both of which I just one day dropped for no good reason (I tend to do that with games I adore; I'm weird) and have come back to because I really wanna finish them.

Playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on my 360. :D

Kind of can't wait to get some MS Points to buy some of the expansions lol. ^_^'

Just started playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, got through the intro. I'm enjoying it so far.

I just started playing From Dust, an ubisoft release. It pretty cool lol I like to drown my follower.. hahaha

Atelier Rorona finally arrived, so I switched over to that. It's a great game, absolutely wonderful, but...it's kinda just that...is it just me, or is "Esty Dee" quite possibly one of the most unfortunate names ever?

I'm gonna go with "yes".

Unless the alternate choice was "Peter Fyle" or "Sodo Mite". In which case, it can sorta be worse. Sorta.

If you continue to enjoy Rorona, you should definitely take a look at Totori once it's released in the US. ^^;;; It's absolutely fantastic, and a massive improvement on a prequel that I already enjoyed a whole bunch. ^_^

Deus Ex - PC

Finished the first couple of levels of Dead Space. I've generally enjoyed it so far, but the camera gives me a headache. Which is unfortunate.

Just about done with the first disc of Baten Kaitos II. Lots of fun! ^_^ It keeps the lovely setting and mythos of the first game, but mixes in much more interesting characters (Guillo! <3) and a generally more intriguing and well-written story. I also think it does the prequel thing rather well. Getting a glimpse of some of the first game's characters before the events of said game really pushes them beyond the rather shallow, one dimensional archetypes they were in it, and causes you to view some of the events of the first game in a quite different light. ^^;;;

Gameplay-wise, I'm a little disappointed that they scaled down the wealth of cards you had at your disposal in the first game, even if many of them were useless, and deck construction isn't nearly as fun to tinker with as it was in BK1. On the other hand, it's hard to argue that the revamped battle engine isn't a massive improvement on the first game's, and at the speed that battles play out at, things would get pretty impossible to manage were you given as many different options as you had in the first game. I think on the whole, the changes are probably for the better, and for a non-action orientated battle system, the game really rewards quick thinking and reflexes. ^_^ I'm also kind of glad they took out the card aging system that was present in the first game, as though it was cool, there was nothing more frustrating than starting a boss fight only to find that some of your precious healing items had turned into rotten food. :'D

My only real complaint about the game would be the sheer wealth of reused assets from the first game. Though given that it's set in the same world in a similar timeframe, I guess it's not completely unmerited. And they were pretty enough the first time around that seeing more of them isn't such a chore. Oh, and obviously I'd prefer another composer due to my unbridled hatred of Motoi Sakuraba. Though like the first game, BKII is definitely one of his strongest works, and has a fair number of tracks I'm actually quite fond of. ^^;;;

Playing phantasy star, and it's kicking my behind.

Currently playing around with Dynasty Warriors (PSP) and Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions. Great games for great console :)

DemiKids: Dark Version, because I need yet another SMT game to drain my time. Even though it's easy despite supposedly being the harder, more complex version.

Also vanilla Morrowind for the PC.

Impossible Mode on Dead Space at the moment. Just started Chapter 3.

The biggest difference I'm finding between this and when I played through on Normal is my general lack of ammo. I've taken to beating the shit out of enemies more than just shooting them whenever I'm confronted with just one at a time. Conserves ammo.

Starcraft 2.

Just finished a couple of the Protoss missions before giving it a rest for the night.
