I personally, was very skeptical of Ryan Reynolds playing the role of the Green Lantern, and even after seeing it, there were parts I cringed and felt uncomfortable and not just over his poor acting abilities. Overall the movie was well done graphics wise, and i'm sure it would make a good wholesome family comedy. But it's supposed to be a hero movie... Not the steaming pile of comedic shit that Ryan Reynolds brought to the role. He's a comedian, and he's stepped out of his league with this one.
The final battle.. was a disappointment. Paralax died in what felt like a 30 second battle and didn't really put up much of a fight and Hal Jordan's transition from afraid human to awesome fearless Green Lantern was pitiful to say the least, in fact it was summed up in an overly cheesy scene where Blake Lively says some really not so deep crap about courage and he's ready to be a hero again.
Sinestro's role in the summoning of Paralax was completely wrong, and Blake Lively's mannequin like acting made it all feel... So, like a badly written Top Gun reincarnation I could've done it better with hand puppets. In fact in the dog fight skirmish at the start of the movie, I could've sworn I walked into the wrong cinema...
But in saying this there was a lot of great moments, in it as well, with Hal's training sessions on Oa and his first experience's with the ring and him saying the famous Green Lantern oath(bad facial expressions in this scene)... But I think really I mostly loved the movie because I am a long time fan of Green Lantern and the little kid inside me exploded with joy that they made an incarnation of it.
If I had to give it a rating, the rating would be 2 and a half out of 5 stars. It was mediocre and the way I see it, movie studios are just going more downhill with every comic/movie crossover they come up with... I really hope that the Avengers doesn't disappoint as much as this one did...
