Therefore, unless a series of games coming out redefines the genre with new elements, The FPS genre will have to stick to what little innovation it can acheive without breaking the dusty old traditions set by Doom. Improved AI, graphics, maps etc.
Therefore, until developers take a risk with the genre and release a FPS with original conventions, then innovation in regards to the FPS genre will remain very much at a surface level.
i agree with what toto said totally. there are no innovative fps out yet. so i suggest why not make a fps thats just like real life. where you can get cripple and it doesn't take half a second for you to regain health. if you get shot in the arm, you can't keep on shooting a gun. where you can use anything around you as a weapon, and make hand to hand combat available (very few games have). the only innovative thing about halo is that it gives you the choice of getting the enemy's weapon, which very few games do. if there is a game that has the following, then its an innovative fps game.
Wild Arms 3, Dark Cloud 2, Disgaea (if you'd count it), Kingdom Hearts.. The list goes on..Quote:

If it's classified as an RPG, then it's an RPG brotha.Quote:

The Developers.Quote:

The classification goes without saying for those games.Quote:

Y'know what? I'm not going to close the topic. I don't mind that it's gotten a little off-topic, as long as you're still talking about games and whatnot. ;)Quote:

Then there's usually a little bit of text describing the game's premise, which usually tells you what genre it belongs to... Also, you can follow previews and reviews to find out what kind of game it is... Pretty simple schtuff...
Looks like it's happened again. Halo 2 has been sold well in advance of it's ship date in certain mid-western states. Apparently some smaller stores have fucked up, and sold the game well ahead of time.
And like the greedy fucks they are, the people who've gotten ahold of it early are selling it on EBay. Morons are bidding like mad on this, and the game has been seen going for upwards of $170. In fact, one auction closed at $265.06.
Why people can't simply wait a fucking week or so for the game is beyond me. I don't give a shit wether or not it's the limited edition, the game comes out soon, and they'd be able to pick it up for far less.... :|
We can only hope that they get held up in transit so that those cash-happy morons have to rush out to the stores and buy it there, too.
I hope they get poop on a stick... :P
Psyonide, I didn't quite understand your post... :?
What I'm saying is this: I hope that anyone who bought a copy of HALO 2 off e-bay will suffer the misfortune of having their package held up in the mail system, so that they haven't yet got it when the game is officially released. Because, I figure that if they're going to pay *that* much for a copy a week or so before official release, they're not going to be too worried about haveing to pay for it again. And they deserve to pay for it again for being tools.
I agree with you totally. The idiot who payed a quarter grand for the game deserves to have it lost in transit, or at the least show up a day or so AFTER the game's released to the general public. That way he'll learn the virtue of patience, next time something like this goes down....
Bah... I didn't like the first Halo, and I see no reason why to get the sequel(unless the only gaming platform I had was the XBox, which I don't. Besides, there are better XBox games out there). Sorry to offend any fanboys, but I am much more excited about HL2 and Doom 3, which seem to have a more solid gameplay.
About early releases: you can find early releases on IRC, BitTorrent, and such for games even weeks before they are released(not just leaked betas, but complete final versions of console games). Piracy is growing quickly... which makes me feel both happy and worried.
