I feel this post. A lot.
Oh and as for Grandia it's a pretty decent franchise, most serious gamers I know have heard of it and have played it as well.

I don't think J-RPGs never released outside Japan count. More often than not, the games where huge successes there, with plenty of critical acclaim.
They were never released state-side due to game company officials thinking they wouldn't be appropriate, or financially profitable, for American/European game markets. Which... at the time was probably true.
I never see Jade Cocoon 2 ever mentioned on this site, so I will state it as under appreciated. Not because people hate it more than they should, which i doubt is true, but because not many people have ever had a chance to enjoy it. I ask people that love PS2 if they ever played it, but i always get blank stares pointed in my direction. I won't say it is original, but the fact that it had a few great side story with certain characters(Cure in particular), and the unique feature of combining you monsters to make better one does have a bit of an edge over Pokemon. imagine if they kept the monster merging process of the original Jade Cocoon, (which I'm not much of a fan of cause of the game-play style, but still good game). Plus the unique voice-overs for each character was neat since they also had emotions pushed into it, great for the time it came out.
On another note, Killer Instinct. Beats the Mortal Kombats on the SNES any day. C-c-c-combo Breaker!
I' d defiantly would have to say Infinite Undiscovery and the Harvest Moon series a lot of people play them but they just seem to sit in the background unnoticed and alone.
I'll say, king of fighters, cuz it has a great story and i raised on that one
also ill say syphone filter
Suikoden series (Konami).
Who played it, will know.
Deserves much more since it gives allot.
Definitely top 10 RPG (part 2 especially) for PSX.
Little less impact on PS2 since its bigger market, but nevertheless #1 for me.
Part of my admiration goes to the fact that game does not get credit it deserves, this being the topic of the thread.˘˘
Just wondering... does people here play anything else besides jrpgs?
There are TONS of non-loved games of just about every genre ever, yet the only genre I see mentioned here (aside from a game or two on PS1) is that one.
Wouldn't that work backwards and make that genre be overrated?
Just askin'.
I usually don't post on forums but this thread intrigued me ^^;
I only really feel strongly about one game in this particular topic and thats Indigo Prophecy aka Farenheit.
Most people don't even know it exists, because if I recall it wasn't even promoted much if at all. For those who don't know, it was created by the same people who brought you Heavy Rain, which got a lot more publicity. Its a shame it didn't get recognized more, I'd even go so far to say that if there was no I.P. there'd be no Heavy Rain, which would truly suck, but I AM glad in the end that the company made a name for itself with this recent release.
I actually know this game and I enjoyed it allot when I beat it, and that was LAST year.
I searched for some top 10 lists of horror/mystery games for some year or something like that and it popped out. I liked it at first sight. DLed it and beat it with day or two, pretty short but enjoyable. ^^
Stereotypically speaking, the majority of the "overlooked" games are JRPGs, merely because a lot of them don't make it to a European or American distribution list.
And to answer your question: no, not everyone here plays JRPGs.
Also, you say "other than a game or two for PS1, everything is JRPGs in this thread."
... did you actually read the thread?
Action/adventures. Both N64.
PSX RPG
Platformer N64.
RTS
SNES RPG
Tactical PS2 and ... no idea, never heard of it, but it sounds like a platformer along the same veins as old school Duke Nukem, Genesis.
No idea what it is, but a quick Google search tells me it's for PC.
Never played them, but sounds like a hack-and-slash RPG dating back to old-school PC (1987).
Semi RTS.
JRPG
Platformer, NES.
Platformer, PSX.
(Also, Kouen, including a walkthrough for the first couple of levels is pretty standard fair, dating all the way back to early NES days. All of the Dragon Warriors for the NES had one, as well as Final Fantasy. Hell, even Legend of Zelda had to the World Map with pretty much exactly where to go for each dungeon. And Final Fantasy VIII had a walk through up until the fight with Ifrit. I'm sure there are a ton of examples that I'm missing, those are just the ones that come to me at this very moment).
JRPG.
RPG, DC/GCN.
PSX RPGs
Adventure, NDS.
Those are all of the posts preceding yours. I see... what? Two, three JRPGs in there? And a hell of a lot more consoles than just "a couple for PSX."
If you're gonna make blanket statements and generally accuse people of only liking one genre of games, you might actually want to read the thread.
Especially since I loath JRPGs.
The Alex Kidd series. SEGA had a good thing going, but they simply hated the poor kid's guts or something. he wasn't "Cool enough", so they made Sonic, who is awsome in all his respects, but Alex Kidd simply could've been so much more than it was...
