I'm going with the DS touch screen, not for its design itself (Which definitely has its uses), but for the way so many devs felt like they had to use it, and/or the microphone. Some of the best games on the DS were the ones that didn't even use the touch screen, like the Castlevania games. You know what the worst part of the DS Castlevanias was? Drawing the gylphs and doing the other touchscreen gimmicks in Dawn of Sorrow. Rest of the game(s) was(were) awesome.

This thread is getting more and more of topic by the minute, but i think its beyond help now.

The touch screen on the DS is not an "accessory". You did'nt buy it to add to the system, it was there from the start.
Having said that, i do agree with your point completely. Same with the Wiimote (again, not an accessory, but i've given up caring now) Nintendo creates a new gaming experience, and show how well it can be used, it's the third party companies that have trouble emulating that sucess.

A strange example is Wii music. Im going to guess that most of you would'nt have played it, and i dont blame you, its pretty terrible. Except one part. The Drum Studio. Using a wiimote, nunchuck, and the wii balance board, you can play drums just as you would a real kit, without the physical feedback from the drums of course. But is pretty damn fun. The different buttons you press on the wiimote and nunchuck create the different sound and you swing, and the two halves of the balance board is the high hat and bass drum. Its a very well done example of how they can be used, if used right.

The GBA Link was sort of a big step towards connecting a handheld to a console. There's the N64 Transfer Pak in which you can connect a GB game to a N64, but still, it was a step towards the DS to connect to the Wii. Besides, it was the first time you can download games to play in the GBA from a GC game. Plus, it sported some cool features. Remember Wind Waker, and you use the GBA to cheat the game a little. And remember on how you got the Tails Chao? And what Pokemon Coliseum be without having to upload your Pokemons from the GBA? Maybe it's not the best, but it's far from worse.

My pick for the worst accessory from Nintendo? It has to be the GameBoy Printer. The GameBoy Camera was cool. It was the first time for a handheld to take pictures, as well as play games with it. It certainly was a step towards the DSi. Still, why there's a need for a printer? It's bad enough to take monochrome pictures, but worse to print it out! Plus, how many games actually use the GameBoy Printer? What's the point in having this? Just because Nintendo has the technology to make it, doesn't mean that they should! XD

I know its been mentioned several times but the power glove just keeps popping into my head. Hmm the Power pad sucked pretty bad to. I dont know if anyone has ever heard about the Famicom 3D system. It was a accessory that never released outside of Japan. Just imagine that. A NES game in 3D! But from what I read their were only like six or seven games compatible with it(Two of which are known as Rad racer and 3D world runner in the states). But in all seriousness, really wasn't the best Idea at the time and it failed pretty badly. Just like the power glove the idea was kind of good, but it just couldn't be done in that era.

Yeah. And he made a brief appearence on training mode of Star Fox 64, as "R.O.B 64". Even there he's more useful.

I guess I'm going to go with the Speedboard, which was made by Pressman but was licensed by Nintendo, so I'm counting this. If you haven't seen the AVGN with it or otherwise know about it, it's basically a piece of plastic you put your NES controller in so you can put it on a table and.. I don't know, play with your fingers over it like an arcade stick, but way shittier.

It's crappy.

What you have to remember is, that nintendo's consoles are always profitable from the outset, rather than losing money, and making it back on the games like other companies. Thats why they did these experiments. Think of the "Different" things that they did that worked. The n64 "trident" pad, The dual screen handheld, and the Wiimote. These were inovations that other companies could not even afford to try. True, there were some duff accessories, but some stuck, and moved the industry forward, and led other companies to follow suit.

And before you ask, i am not a fanboy, i own every console from the past 30 years, and like them all. Nintendo just likes to be "different", and thats what i like about them.

Im not going to argue your point whatsoever. you are right. you have your facts straight. Well done.

It just goes to show that nintendo are good at what they do, Business. The WiiMote and The DS Were MASSIVE risks, if they did'nt stick, they would have lost a boat load of money. But would have just moved on to a new gameboy, or more powerful gamecube, and made the money back. The virtual boy was an Epic fail, but in the grand scheme of things, did'nt even make a dent in the huge back pockets of Nintendo, Where as Sega, who were losing money on each machine, and skimped a bit on protection, had to bow out of the console business after the dreamcast self booting backups fiasco. Piracy on nintendo consoles is the highest of all of them, but at the end of the day, they dont have to rely on game sales to make their money. Because, You cant download a console.

So yes, cheap. But Smart, Good business.

Nintendo outsells their competitors in this generation of consoles, portables included. Making a superior console has nothing to do with maximizing profits.
