Played it a few days ago. Graphics are nice, gameplay is okay, lack of characters sucks. Some characters are already on the disc, and just require an unlock code... That probably goes for all of the characters. Capcom are terrible at DLC.

Ryu is in, he was the first character to be shown. :|
I wish they removed Felica and Trish (Trish did stuff?) for Vergil and Gene.
Strider couldn't be added due to licensing issues. And Jin.. Well, quite frankly no one even knows who the hell Jin is, and as such he wasn't popular enough to return. Servbot was also the second worst character in MvC2's roster, only usurped for worst by Roll. (Besides, Servbot's make an appearance still with Tron Bonne)
Sentinel on the other hand is an Iconic marvel enemy, and was also a top tier character in MvC2 and one of the MOST popular of that game.
Akuma himself plays close enough to Ryu as it is, we didn't need another guy that plays so remarkably similar to Ryu in this game. The idea was a diverse roster, not one filled with clones. Besides, Chun-Li and Crimson Viper are there if you want an all Street Fighter group.
I still don't see how 36 characters constitutes a "lack of characters."
Also Shuma Gorath was supposed to be in the game from the start, his Capcom equivalent character was Frank West, but due to technical reasons their vision of Frank West simply wasn't working. (one of his Hyper's caused MAJOR lag in multiplayer.) So he was cut from the game and plans for Jill Valentine were drawn up instead, but due to the fact Frank was cut from the game so late.. They didn't have time to finish Jill before release, and so both Shuma and Jill became DLC. (They're going to be packed TOGETHER)
Also yes, some of Jill's files are on the disc, notably her model. That doesn't mean all her assets are there, like her VA work, all of her animation data, her AI, her mission mode objectives, etc.. There's no evidence ANY of that is on the disc.
Oh man, this game sure looks ugly compared to recycled sprites from the 90s!
:top:
I see nothing wrong with the graphics, dunno what some people was expecting
Also, Ryu and Akuma are both available, how many shotokans people need? This is not Marvel vs Street Fighter..
Played it quite a bit in the past few days, I'm hoping to get another PS3 and buy a copy to play on PSN. I personally love it, it has a very diverse cast. Most of the above complaints are unfounded, and it just sounds like some people don't like change. :P
Sentinel, like Cable, Magneto and similar, were popular because they were cheap and allowed for unlimited juggles.
Servbot was good because he could totally shut down Sentinel's juggles. Hence he had a niche use. (Just like Gambit was fun to use, if just to off screen lock Magneto users the second they switched in because you know they were going for the infinite juggle as well.)
While Jin might not have been 'known' by US players, most dont even know who Arthur is, either. So thats not a very good reason. (Or hell, Felicia. Darkstalkers had a very, very niche following in the US.) So thats a pretty terrible reason, considering he was a fairly popular character in the scope of the series itself.
Yes, I played far more MvC2 than strictly healthy. Roll was also better than Megaman, so thats something at least. (Also, her theme music was awesome and Id rock her up as a third spot character just on that alone.)
Also, they should have just Ryu/Ken/Akuma like they did in... Street fighter vs Capcom? I think it was. Wherein Ryu could switch 'forms' to one of the three.
Now, Dan, on the other hand, is totally different and awesome and is completely necessary.
so, codes unlock dlc? what are the codes?
None of those characters you refer to as "cheap" were very easy to play. Juggling with Magneto took skill, it wasn't something just anyone could pull off. Furthermore it wasn't the juggling that led to his popularity, it was his speed. (He and Storm were two of the fastest characters on the roster.. They're also incredibly iconic Marvel characters, which is why they made a return.)
Jin also only had one game to my knowledge, he's a very unknown character. Arthur on the other hand has been in a number of games.. Furthermore, people have been wanting Arthur as playable for years now. (He was one of the most requested characters, so no.. He's not so unknown as you might think.) Likewise, MvC isn't anywhere NEAR as popular in Japan as it is over in the West. (So Jin being better known over there doesn't apply either, because MvC3 was specifically catered toward a Western audience.) Felicia is also the second most well known character in the Darkstalker series, and has made cameos in many other games..
And honestly.. If you think Roll was better than anyone on the MvC2 roster, you obviously never played the game competitively at all.
I guess you mean X-Men vs Street Fighter.
Some characters won't appear in MvsC3 cos neither Marvel nor Capcom had big plans for them in a near future, either that or cos Marvel or Capcom are interested in promoting other characters due to different reasons (new movies, comic-book series or games coming soon, etc).
I think the final roster is good and it will be improved with the DLCs, the second part was released more than 10 years ago and many things have changed in both companies. It's normal that it would reflect in the final selection of characters, Thor, Phoenix, Deadpool, Dante and all the RE series characters are really good additions.
The first Marvel vs Capcom is the one were Ryu changes. In that one you also started with a level 1 super.
The fact that the game is 10 years old is why I am disappointed. In 10 years they should have added 20 more characters instead of subtracting. I know Cable, Magneto, Sentinal, Doom and a handful more were OP and just because there is a smaller roster I fear we will see still the same 6 or so characters. I can imagine 70% of time Deadpools and Dantes. The game feels rushed to me(even though it has been 10 years) and will probably wait till they realease Miracle Marvel VS Capcom 3. Or whatever they will call the expansion.
Just skeptical because Street Fighter 4 was not really done till a year later.
And if it is as good as MvC2 Im sure It will have a stay popular for another 6 years so I am in no rush to get it.
It's obvious who I'm putting on point in my team. :D
But I do hope there are at least two more DLC characters. *crosses fingers for Daredevil/Wright* HYPER LAWYER PACK GOGOGO
Psylocke/Strider are more likely because they were both popular and both ninjas, and the whole Male/Female thing, plus they wouldn't be new characters, making them a bit easier to put in.
Damn, I'd almost bet on it.
Capcom and Marvel need to put out a fighting game, that instead of featuring the most popular characters, has only secondary and one-time appearances. :D
How cool would that be? :lol
