It all depends on what the first platformer for the psp2 is
well i just watched a video.. seems sony is moving from gaming platforms to phones. i am not liking the new menu on it eather, looks confusing, so far to me the 3ds looks better but as usual i am waiting a couple of years for two reasons 1. working all the kinks out and 2. homebrew. on the first note, if sony hasnt fixed the analog problem present from psp fat then the ds is looking better. at least we can somewhat manage with a faulty left trigger. and also to see what games there are for it. persona 5 is most likely going to be on the 3ds so another reason i will get it lol
I would have to say neither, I purchase a portable system for portable games not games I can get on my console..I want pick up and go one of the reasons I didn't play my psp nearly as much as my DS...I also don't feel like paying over 200 dollars for a portable system with the 3ds at 250, and the NGP likely being 350...
sorry if this is a bit off topic but ngp (next gen portable) is the codename for the psp2 right?
PSP2 is. It packs more horses than the Xbox 360. Have you seen this?
Free Resistance 3 when you buy a PSP2.
well you cant go wrong with sony or nintendo i suppose. as long as they fix the bloody problems from the previous versions! cant tell you how many psp's i had to sell back just because the analog was beginning to wear out, and i really hate how its hard to come by a real memory stick for them.
I can't afford either, but if I could I'd definately get a 3DS. If not for the games (which I'm sure will be awesome) then for the ability to watch 3D movies. I'm not interested in the current crop of 3D TVs because I think the technology isn't really there yet and they rushed it out before it was ready. However, if the TV people can look at the 3DS and figure out how to apply the same glasses-free tech to their own product, then we might have 3D television that's actually worth something. Just my two cents.
The touch service on the back is extremely interesting, it looks like it may be even better than the second analog stick.
Lol 3DS, why not have two sliders? You're gonna have to do the awkward 'move with left hand and use touch screen to move the camera.' God, that's awful.
As far as popularity, it's gonna be the 3DS, most likely. But as far as the better system with probably the better elite set of exclusives, it's by far the PSP2.
I'm not interested in 3d, but from what I remember, the tech Ninty uses can't exactly be scaled to a tv without major downsides. Of course I think both companies are rushing as well. Both companies are rushing to put as powerful hardware in their portables as they can and I think they both will be ahead of their time. If that is the case, then it won't help them. For one there is battery life. Ds and Psp were manageable, but tethering will be much more of an issue.
The 3ds has 3-5 Hour life. Unless PSP2 has a better battery life then comparable times or worse will be experienced. It's like what was said about laptops. I have one and it lasts about an hour. Two if all I am doing is reading. If I was to play games, then battery life drops fast. Therefore with more powerful handhelds, battery life expectancy drops and mobility is hampered. At that point you may as well play a console unless you like being tethered.
I bought the gimmick for the games, not the other way around. The gimmick isn't what sells me, the games are. Why do ds and wii games feel they need to use the gimmick. I love the Phoenix wright games, but I also played it on the wii and liked it better then cause I could see it better, and anyone could see it didn't rely on a gimmick (for either system) because it originally didn't even have a gimmick. So Phoenix wright is my favorite ds game and it had an improvement when ported from the ds to wii though nothing was changed. My eyes also thanked me.
3ds will sell better. But sales don't mean it is inherently better itself. The wii is the biggest seller this gen, yet most complaints stem from the fact that most games on it are shovelware. Even the ds has more hardcore games than wii. Overall, I think PSP2 will have better games, but I wouldn't count out the 3ds. If as many good games come out as they say will then I see a fierce competition. I still think battery life will be a downside for both though.
That's not an "even" in the DS's case. As far as old-school first-person RPGs and roguelikes are concerned, the DS is second only to the computer. Izuna, Shiren, Etrian Odyssey and Dark Spire, even Pokemon Mystery Dungeon are all DS games, and all except Shiren are exclusive. If you're talking about hardcore as though it's some intrinsically wonderful trait, then few things are more hardcore than roguelikes.
3DS will sell more. Nintendo has always kicked ass in the handheld department. if people are pissing and moaning about the 3DS price tag, wait until sony says how much this will cost. Sony also has to find the right game for it too. Nintendo has pokemon and Kirby, which sell well on the DS/Handhelds, but i can't think of what sony has. IIRC, sony even has a Monster Hunter game for the psp. although if the PSP2 does get it, it will look very sexy in HD, however, Nintendo knows what they are doing.
For a shot in the dark, i'd say Nintendo will win. we don't know much about the PSP2 yet, plus isn't it suppose to launch around the holiday season too? so that should help it, plus E3 buzz too.
Leaning PSP2.
Why?
Second control stick. Awesome.
NGP will for sure be $400-500, for good reason.
The 3DS, not so much. A $250 pricetag for already outdated hardware and basic functionality is a little much. Just like the DS is right now, it will become outdated very quickly, especially with competition from the Android market, Apple, etc. And the major gimmick is it's 3D, but a parallax barrier isn't unknown technology, it could be very easily implemented on other devices. So an inferior system with only a gimmick no one cares about? I dunno, the Wii was pretty innovative, but the 3DS is just what the system is called, a DS with 3D slapped on. Not literally, but that's the idea.
Of course the 3DS is gonna sell more in comparison, not just because of price differences, but because it's branded with Nintendo. The major market is for little kids, and it's the most generic and casual system for moms to get their 11-year old for Christmas or whatever. Nintendo could put out anything they wanted, it would still sell. And generally, the cheaper, inferior product sells more just because it's cheaper.
I'm calling that both systems will have disappointing initial sales. After a few price drops, they will begin to sell but I'm gonna say Sony is going to win this generation of portable gaming. It has both what 'hardcore' gamers want, and casual gamers like. A PS3 experience in your pocket? Awesome. But with the touch screen and open apps, games like Angry Birds and other mini-games will flood onto the system for casual gamers. The 3DS still has that awkward stylus touch screen, which really limits what the touch screen is capable of doing. Multi-touch is non-existent, and it's incredibly small to boot. The top screen is sub-par at best, and no one cares about 3D. And the graphics will only be a slight step-up from the PSP, with cartridges. Also, I'm very happy the NGP uses cartridges. Disc-based loading is just awkward and so inefficient.
The NGP has what it takes to succeed in a market of casual gamers, but they have to be smart to price is to a moderate extent. The majority of the profits should come from the software, while the system itself will be a loss leader to get more of NGPs out to consumers. That's how I would do it, anyway.
If Sony manage to get Capcom to make a new Monster Hunter or even an updated MHP3 for the NGP launch, it will sell like crazy in Japan. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was the second best selling title in Japan last year and it was released in December.
A Monster Hunter bundle would cause a riot.
