I can't but help feel a bit offended. That stuff doesn't come up to that much money, $40 USD is about what I would expect. As for the PS2/GameCube game that is coming from a relative. To tell the truth over the past few hundred years Christmas has been completely, and I mean completely, reinvented. Christmas is now seen as a commercial holiday where you give your loved ones and close friends presents to show how much you appreciate them. That is still a good cause for Christmas but it doesn't ring true to the original concept of celebrating the supposed Jesus' birthday. I myself am athiest and hold pitty and slight disrespect to people who thank god for their own accomplishments. I do not exactly agree with the commercialism. I just go along with the holiday whilst cashing up on the presents that everyone insists on. I do not think myself as greedy as greed implies that these are things I must have in addition to my 'collection'. But this is not the case as I don't have much of a collection and I don't need these things.

I enjoy Christmas shopping for others, but as for myself eh... I don't usually have much preference at Christmas, I s'pose probably just some money this year. Or a game or something. More than presents, I just enjoy the atmosphere of this time of year, it's nice ^^

I hate christmas dunno what I will get but im gonna get my gf some l33t stuff. -_-

I'm going to get Karmin some chocolate. That's really about it... :P

Of course not...how many people (Devout Christians in particular) would remember or choose to remember that the Christmas tree, exchanging gifts, having a feast, mistletoe, the Yule log, the twelve days of Christmas, and the date on December 25 were all derived from the ancient Roman Saturnalia, Scandinavian Yuletide, Druid winter solstice traditions, and Mithraism, all pagan religions. ;)

I'm not a very big fan of christmas myself. Mainly because I don't really care if I get anything, but I don't feel like getting people stuff ^_^ Too much time involved, and supporting the commercialism of it all.

I see everyone ripping on Vanit for his list but how does that come close to anyone who is gettin a computer? That's worth a lot more than some games...given some of those games might be fairly expensive.

That reminds me Zephyr, I have a bunch of ceramic Santa Clause's
from around the world. I have to go find those. 8)

Actually I am getting a computer aswell :D, but I've been annoying my dad for one for about 8 months and its only chance that he finally agreed to buy one about now.

Im disgusted by what Christmas has become. To those whom say it has become commercialised are undoubtedly correct - only through growing out of it and taking a step back I have seen Christmas for what it really is.

Clever marketing aimed primarily at children.

The reason we will see differing views here is down to the various age of our members. For myself, I grew out of Christmas after I had the ability to work and earn money - meaning that I could buy what I wanted all year round and effectively spelling the death knell for what I had, unfortunately, come to see Christmas as.

Now, thankfully, I look upon Christmas as a rare, but undoubtedly enjoyable time of year whereby I get the annual opportunity to meet up with family...with presents making for a preffered second fiddle. So whilst I might be considered a sqaunderer for blowing my monthly pay packet on junk it is in fact the proverbial blessing in disguise, as I can now enjoy Christmas for one of its true meanings.

That, and of course, to eat turkey and get p</>issed.

That is completely correct. But still being considered a child I prefer to take advantage of this occation. I'd just like to add that the Bible is a medieval joke book on my point of view.

Your religious stand-point is your own - I have never read the bible so it would be unfair for me to comment - but you should enjoy Christmas in that context while you still do...I do appreciate how satisfying it is to unwrap the present you crazed your parents for for the last x months. Heh, one of my fondest memories was getting up seriosuly early to play on my shiny new Saturn, call me materialist - call me what you will, but that made my Christmas that year.

I put a lot of effort into annoying him. Plus he really thinks we need a new computer too. Currently we have P3 800mhz, 393RAM, 200gb, GeForce 4. It seems half decent cause we've added a bit to it over the years. But we need an altogether new computer.
