Oh, apparently the HP totals for enemies in Legend of Dragoon are substantially higher in the Japanese version than in other versions. That would explain why bosses are taking me god only knows how long, I guess. :'D

LoD is great.
Fuck the haters.
So-so. ^_^ The first two or three hours were paaaainfully slow, but it's starting to pick up. Then again, I have kind of a fondness for Playstation RPGs of that era, so maybe I'm a little biased. And the English translation is meant to be bottom of the barrel sort of stuff, so I might not be so fond of it were I not playing it in Japanese.
It does take a little while to pick up, and not everyone would be especially fond of the plot (some of the more major twists you can easily see coming, each kingdom tends to function like a sort of "mini story"). I deeply enjoyed it and consider it one of the better PSX rpgs, but I'm sure a decent percentage of that is the nostalgia talking.
As for the translation, the terrible translation adds to things in my opinion. It's like how that terrible FF7 script made the game hilariously awful at times. Of course there's a lot more proofreading happening in LoD so it's not quite as extreme. But it has its moments.
Well I'm off to bed.
And I shan't be alone in this endeavor.
Lady, lady, gentlemen.

I quite like the story so far. It's nothing spectacular, but it's pleasant in a typically Japanese take on high fantasy-ish way. ^_^ My problem with the early hours was more one of balance. You do so little damage to everything. D: Though the inflated HP totals of enemies in the Japanese version probably had a lot to do with that. In any case, it got a lot better in that respect once I reached a town where I could actually upgrade my equipment. And better still once I got Rose, who appears to have semi-godly damage output. ^^;;;
I read the opening scenes to the English script, and it actually has a really similar problem to FFVII in that it's generally translated at least semi-competently, but has basically been left at a direct translation, with no attempt being made to polish the translated script into good English. :'D It needs to be rewritten more than actually retranslated.
Wait, Ray went to sleep, yet I can't pass the fuck out.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD.
