Sounds like you just don't know how to take care of a dog

If you have dogs shitting and pissing everywhere indoors they aren't trained. Even my oldest dog lets me know if she wants to go outside.
Train them to do their business on grass.

As for the general dog smell you give them a wash. If you didn't wash and were covered in hair you would smell too.

There are some dog breeds that keep very clean by grooming themselves, one I know of personally is the Basenji but there are others.

Cats basically are auto maintenance aside from cleaning their box,brushing and the other typical necessities.

Cat shit smell varies from cat to cat, even more so if the cat has a upset stomach or if its a fatass.

It's not too difficult to train a dog, but some are stupid, or poop to act out. When I was younger my family had a dog that would do that and no amount of training would help.

Fwiw in the city here you are supposed to bag your dog's shit but I know it's not strictly enforced by any means.
