DL , a PC is not a console , external storage sources are normal, no idea where you are trying to go with mentioning that. :P
You can't normally backup your NES or whatever old consoles save data without hacking the system or having some really obscure backup tool that costs a arm and a leg.
Gezegond, have you looked up how much data recovery costs?
