Recently Watched Movies

Just watched Conviction earlier today, with Hillary Swank and... Sam Rockwell? I think that's his name. The guy who played the crazy captain dude from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Billy the Kidd in The Green Mile.

It was... okay. Unfortunately, with a lot of these "based on a true story" movies, it had a lot of ground to attempt to cover in an hour and fifty minutes, give or take. Trying to show the relationship between the brother and sister, showing the original trial, everything in between, gathering the new evidence and what-have-you left everything feeling a little bit... rushed. It didn't really flow that well. Still, it was passable to kill a couple of hours, and an interesting (if somewhat generic) story. Nothing really earth-shattering... it basically felt like The Hurricane, 'cept without Denzel Washington's charm or the personality of Rubin Carter.

True Grit - Seemed like it had some really pointless scenes and their speech patterns threw me off. But was definitely worth the $1 to see it.
Bubba Ho-Tep - Bruce Campbell plays Elvis, who is living in a nursing home and has to defeat an Egyptian mummy zombie with the help of JFK, played by Ozzie Davis. I didn't get to watch it all in one sitting, will have to rewatch it again soon.
Kentucky Fried Movie - Sketch comedy movie from the 70s. Was still enjoyable, though understandably dated.
Children of Men - Was coming down off acid during this, was kinda hard to follow. Wasn't too impressed but I'll have to see it sober I guess.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Saw this peaking on acid and, not gonna lie, got a bit emotional. Great movie tho.

how to train your dragon -i love that movie. read the books a while before i had even heard about the movie (year and a half or so...)

Watched Inception last night. It was pretty good.

I watched Toy Story 3 again last night.... It still makes me shed a tear at the end.

Watched Survival of the Dead and Rio last night.

Saw Insidious at the cinema the other night. Kind of hoped it would be scarier after what I had read, but there were some well executed jump scares, and it was generally quite a fun little ghost story. Second half was a bit crap compared to the first, mind.

Also watched the Japanese animated movie Colorful. Cute and rather recommended. ^_^ The first half of the movie is ultra-depressing and I kind of wanted to punch the protagonist at several points, but it's completely necessary for the heartwarming second, which totally redeems the film. I translated it as I went along too, so there are now English subs floating around in a torrent if anyone happens to be interested. Feed Google my username, the name of the movie and the word 'torrent' and it ought to know what to do. :'D

Oh, and Santa's Slay with my cousins at the weekend. Because demonic Santa played by a famous wrestler? That's like...cinema gold right there.

Saw Waterworld on TV last night. It's not a bad movie, but it's not a epic movie either. I'd give it a 7/10.

I just finished Hairspray.. for the 4th time.

I watched Thor a few days ago. It was pretty good, I can't wait for Captain America. :D

Thor. Much, much better than I thought it would be, it wasn't an easy story to tell but the final result is pretty good. If you are a fan of the funny books, go watch it!

Tangled - Enjoyable but I thought it kind of drug on 3/4 the way thru.
Over the Hedge - Better than okay, fun watch.
Flushed Away - Kind of meh. Too many nut shots.

Tangled's pretty good, the main character is so adorable :DD

I agree Thor was better than I thought as well I'm still waiting on Captain America as well as the new X-Men movie professor x before he was professor x

Watched Priest a couple nights ago. It was kinda meh. I don't hate it though.

totally watched Scott Pilgrim... better than I thought it'd be.

Saw The Hangover Part II, it definitely had it's moments.

I watched The Hangover Part II last night. It was very raunchy, and I don't think it was as good as the first. That being said, I did enjoy it. I am still rather unsure as to whether I will buy it when it is released on Blu-ray.

In a completely different spectrum, I just got to watching my Blu-ray of 2010: The Year We Make Contact. It's a very good film but not quite as good as 2001: A Space Odyssey. I am a sucker for the cold war tensions expressed in the film. I am still deciding as to whether the end of 2001 makes more or less sense now. If you have seen 2001: A Space Odyssey you know what I am talking about.

I'd go with more, but 2010 is a sequel to the novel. Slightly different endings and all that. Generally speaking 2001 wasn't really intended to make much sense, it was mostly supposed to be weirdness for the sake of weirdness. With 2010, they try making sense of it. The aliens are essentially gods, the monoliths are a medium through which they can alter the world (the effect on evolution, the creation of planets, etc), and they double as gateways to an alternate reality/higher dimension/alien world/"heaven".

I watched Where Eagles Dare a few nights ago. It was very good.

Turtles Forever.

Finally got around to watching it and enjoyed every moment. I dare say it's the best crossover I've ever seen. I also like how they treated everything with respect instead of mocking the 80s show, which would have been easy.
