I remember when I first gave my son a dill pickle just after his first birthday. He was not impressed. :lol
If I remember right, he ended up putting it on my plate, then picking it up and taking it to my dad's plate. Then picking it up and taking it to my mom's plate. And the cycle continued until I ended up eating it when he wasn't looking.
Sauerkraut was something else I got stuck into straight away.
It was Dad that always encouraged that kind of food........it came from his side of the family.
