It seems a little odd to me that many people are willing to debunk gay marriage due to Christian morality, yet have no problem turning a blind eye to the fact that many of the heterosexual couples that get married are not, in fact, Christian at all. Surely, non-believers being able to get married is just as much a sin as gay couples, since both are (should you believe as such) going to hell when they die? Why, then, is it perfectly acceptable to exclude gay couples from marriage, when they are no more 'sinful' than non-Christian heterosexual couples? Let's face it, marriage isn't simply a Christian thing anymore, it's been adapted into our culture as a way for two people to celebrate their love for one another. There is also, as Xaenn stated, several rights gained by a 'couple' as opposed to 'two people who happen to live together', and to deny people this on account of gender is both stupid and wrong. Don't call it marriage if you really mustn't, but such rights should be attainable, regardless of the gender of those involved.
