When there were only 251 Pokemon.
Yeah, I'm an oldfag when it comes to Pokemon. Some of the new Pokemon are cool, but most...ehh.
I miss a couple things.
1. Consoles that are well put together. Consoles these days are, for lack of a better descriptive phrase, pussy consoles compared to old school consoles. My SNES is still around and works like the first day I got it. I still have it's original controllers, Power Pack, and RF switch, all in great shape. Meanwhile my PS2 burned out last year, why? bc Sony thought a tiny console with no fans was a good idea, Maybe for a cartridge intake but not so much for a disc reader.
2. The older systems had better games bc back then Graphics weren't an object of focus at all. Everything was 2D so the only way to get people to buy your games was to make them good. I'll probably never beat black ops campaign again meanwhile I've beaten The legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past well over 100 times in my life. Why? It's ridiculously fun and really easy to play. So easy that the first time I beat it was at age 3.
So I booted up Gears of War and beat it without dying once.
Havent even played it before.
Comparatively, I still cant beat Contra without dying like a bitch at least a handful of times, at least not until I've gotten back into the proper groove. Which takes a bit of practice.
Games are, by and large, leaps and bounds simpler. Saving and such doesnt change that fact. I could do exactly this and still beat 90% of games without issue.
Course, there are a few games (Hello bayonetta on harder difficulties) that come to mind as things I do, in fact, die in pretty regularly.
Blue Warrior is about to die!
What I miss? When the console war was lighthearted. Also, when graphics were not everything. (Of course, I mean the SNES. I can barely stand the NES graphics.)
I miss the days when graphics didnt make games look stupid
now games with those "HD GRAPHICZ" makes the movement look slow and stupid
I think they hit the graphical sweet spot with cps2. Seriously, Darkstalkers, Street Fighter Alpha, Marvel Super Heroes, they all looked so impressive to me back then, and they still do.
Good Crash Bandicoot games
I miss how big single-player games used to be. I know we still have these, but I feel like online games get most of the attention nowadays. At least, they get more long-term attention - and I understand why since you can keep going with MMOs and all that, and once a single-player game ends, that's it until the sequel comes out, but I feel like you have to play online games to really be a part of the gamer community. It's harder to find people to talk about single-player games with than it is to find someone who will get into huge discussions and stories about some online game.
