Ah, my game of the moment? Hold on...I've scaled the images down to 800x600 so they don't bloat the thread too badly. The first image is my European conquests (just a little Rhineland expansion into the Palatinate, plus Strassburg/Alsace when France got a bit expansionist and ate my other ally there, Lorraine), the second my American conqests (I grabbed most of the South, took the Bahamas, Florida, and Texas-Arizona in three wars with Spain, and also colonized the Falklands, not pictured), and the third the Dutch East Indies, India, and Australia-New Zealand in the corner (I also managed to hold on to Taiwan by luck).

You can also see my national stats (not the greatest leader, but better than the last) and global VP standing in the first (I barely managed to beat out Spain in the last decade, despite pummeling them in three wars...I blame their alliance with France and Prussia from letting me make a fourth try. I'm aligned with Britain, but it's still tough when you're surrounded), my domestic policy sliders in the second (Very plutocratic, centralized, militarily defensive and qualitative, navally oriented, and with a free populace, which plays havoc with my stability modifiers), and the province of Jakarta in the third.

Oh, France also knocked Britain about a bit in the French and Indian War, but I kicked them out from Illinois to Minnesota in a war right after that (I don't regard it as a victory, since I lost Lorraine and barely held my own in Mexico against the Spanish allies, plus I didn't get the French Indian Center of Trade, but it was pretty nice for an effective tie). I also didn't fight Portugal quite as much as historical (Timor and Ceylon are Portuguese, not Dutch), and didn't bother with South Africa. Austria also managed to get the living daylights kicked out of them when the Hungarian and Bohemian crowns were joined and eventually became subservient to the Spanish Hapsburgs (read: diplomatically annexed), so the Turks never really had anyone strong enough to actually beat them back, Poland-Lithuania pretty much is dying against Prussia in droves, and Russia also got kicked around badly by Sweden, which never declined in this timeline (No St. Peterburg, but Narva and Novgorod are still important). France is also doing a number in Southern Germany, and Bavaria is a Lutheran stronghold (Oh, Prussia also remained Catholic). Well, another decade will be the end of that game, but it's been an interesting four centuries. :D

Ah, something I just noticed. China and Spain have the same color, so that is the Spanish Phillipines, not Chinese. Taiwan is still mine, though. I managed to hold out against the historical fall of the Fort Zeelandia, somehow (40k rebellions are not fun, especially in one province mountainous islands half a world away). ;)

Oh, sorry. It's Europa Universalis 2. I've mentioned it in this forum...more than a few times, really, so I thought I'd been belabouring the point. ;)

Not the most complicated ever, but it isn't exactly simple. It's difficult to win, though, especially with the Europa Portugalis mod that this particular game session was (which give the AI a leg-up every so often to keep it competitive with an experienced player and to ensure reasonably historical outcomes). Even with just plain version 1.08, you can't just go on a conquest spree without boosting your Badboy rating so high that the entire world teams up to take you down (a common new player mistake). You have to be careful if you're going to try for a world conquest (WC) game, something I've never even tried.

Oh, and I wonder if anyone else will remember this game... ;)

Nope, EU2 is one disk (and technically, you don't need the disk to play with the later patches, since Strategy First stopped insisting they add copy protection). The thing is, it's four years old, out of production, and I can't seem to find it in their online store. I'd upload it here because of that, but I can't seed torrents from behind the University firewall, and we can't put PC games out here anyways (Paradox has been asked, and they do not consider it abandonware yet, since there are still new copies in circulation...kinda like Deux Ex, actually, when someone asked about it before). It's on Amazon, as part of the Paradox Strategy Pack or alone. The Strategy pack also comes with some of their other games, actually. Well, Hearts of Iron was superceded by Hearts of Iron 2, and Two Thrones and Crown of the North are basically smaller-scale versions of Europa Universalis 2, but Victoria's pretty good (a lot more complicated, steep learning curve, and a bit too micro-management oriented, though) and Asian Chapter is basically EU2 with a better Oriental map, but I'm not sure the patches will work with it (The newer ones might, since they upped the province limit with 1.08 and the success of Magellan). Still, they're about the same cost, so you can buy either or...I'm loathe to say it about a game and developing company I love, but it is a principle that makes sense to me, to "try before you buy." Just don't expect any help on the forums if you do that. They ban pirates quite quickly, since the two biggest problems are pirates who want game help and Nazis demanding swastikas in Hearts of Iron (which are banned in Germany, another big market for Paradox).
