Ad-aware and Spybot: overhyped

I'm using both too, but, there "is" some stuff they can't find...

What would you do if someone came to the board complaining of spyware that spybot and adaware couldn't fix? Move on to the next thread? I didn't even know there were diferences until I started searching around. I'm trying to inform people that there are options out there, and some are more powerful than others. So don't accuse me of getting on a "soap-box." I never said they were "crap." Don't turn this into an us vs. them thread.

Well, here's a quick and easy answer to your post. I don't give two shits what the next guy chooses to use, and neither should you.

You're forcing your choices on us because you believe they are the best for everyone out there, and in your opinion far better and more functional then Ad Aware and Spybot. What you've failed to see in your pontificating is that those two programs are perfectly servicable to many of us, and as such we don't need someone telling us that we're breeding hype and whatnot.

If your goal was to simply offer us information on the better deal, why is it that you're so interested in wether we choose to continue using those so called inferiour products, or heed your suggestions? It seems to me that you should be more tolerant to peoples right to choice, and let us be. If we're content with what we have, then it's really not up to you to continue to push this shit on us. You've made your case already, now it's up to us what we do with the information you've provided.

As for your closing paragraph, well I suppose we'll cross that bridge when or if we get there, eh?

You have missed my point. At no point did I say IE was a better browser, in fact I never stated my browser. Complacency is what can be applied to anything. Complacency is what prevents people from trying a better browser. Complacency is what prevents people from considering alternate spyware solutions.

At no point did I ever force anything on anyone. At no point did I ever tell anyone to use one app and not another. At no point did I ever infringe upon anyone's "right to choose." At no point did I "push this shit" on anyone. At no point was I "intolerant" of anyone's rights. I will not tolerate having words put in my mouth. If you don't give two shits about what the next guy chooses, then you shouldn't give two shits about what some stranger is "pontificating" as you put it. If pontificating is reporting personal experiences then you are likewise guilty.

If you are taking so much issue with the word "hype" then I'll lay it out like this:

(1) I bought into it.

(2) It let me down.

(3) I found something that got the job done.

(4) I'm sharing the info for others who weren't helped by spybot and adaware.

If you are looking for a (5) then stop looking, because it isn't there.

My objective in making the post was to raise awareness about spyware. And from the number of posts and views, that was accomplished. I use spybot and ad aware. They're good. But they're not a silver bullet. They don't update as frequently and they don't cover as many bases as others. If they work for you, good. But get off my nuts. The only judgement call I made was on Bush and Kerry. (Did you think they were a metaphor for something else??)

I used Spyware Doctor, and GIANT AntiSpyware, both are good.

You've outlined the differences in the products, so what's with the continued interest in wether or not we use your advice? You've done the work that you believed you needed to, so why continue to push this shit on us? It's now up to us to use your information or not, as we see fit. Wether we choose to use or ignore your advice, you've done your part. We simply don't need to hear anymore from you on the matter, unless of course you have additional information pertaining to the products you're so eager to pimp on us.
