Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Learning foreign languages is really fucking hard.
Honestly, I don't think learning the verbal language is a tenth as bad as cramming all those funky squiggles into a single lobe. I kind of regret not taking Tom from XSEED's advice and learning to speak first, read later.
I figured since I transliterate so much Latin and Greek from old nerdy texts, I'd catch on quick enough. . . but if I go three days without reviewing kanji, I pretty much have to start over from scratch.
Really the only way is to just keep doing it. Read, read and read, and eventually the squiggles will stick. VNs help.
Also, Tom is a total bro.

I guess this is an appropriate time to pop in and say I'm still alive.
If by bro you mean jackass, then yes. Yes he is.
When you get to know him better, he can be a real douche. Namely, he shoves his personal opinions down people's throats, and thinks that anybody who doesn't agree with him 100% is somehow attacking him, which causes him to fight back (ie. start a fight). He's also given false information in XSEED PR before, for which he's had to apologize, because, like in debates about scholastic topics, he makes assumptions and argues them as fact.
Before being chased out of his mod position on the Ys forum, he would ignore blatant trolling, but threaten to ban anybody who had the slightest criticism for XSEED (which made for some fun threads, considering nobody there liked XSEED's trailers, which he took as a personal attack on him and his friends).
Basically: he's an ESFJ, the natural enemy of the ENTJ. He's a great guy when you agree with everything he says, but any tiny excuse for that Extraverted Feeling to come out, and you've got an emotional maniac on your hands.
Also, he openly admits to changing the text in Falcom games for meme inserts and even sneaking friends names and forum in-jokes in. Defiling Falcom games is like defiling a holy text.
I... I see. I mostly thought he was that cool guy who translated the first Kiseki game which I thought was pretty well-done as far as English localizations go. I don't know much about his personal stuff.
I would have to compare his translation and the original JP script to make judgments. I am also fairly liberal in my own translations, which is something that some hardcore purist folk frown upon.
