I think Britain is actually quite tough on people trying to become citizens. Becoming a resident of the country is easy, but actually taking citizenship is surprisingly difficult here.Quote:

Australians (born here) have been allowed to have dual citizenship for around 10 years iirc.
Possibly. I've looked into it, and it doesn't seem much more difficult than here.
I would consider it if I had been here for more than about eight years, had a family with a Japanese man, had a good career, owned a house and generally had no intention of ever leaving the country outside of holidays. As is, though, I think I probably like foreign languages and foreign countries a little too much to ever settle down in one place for that long.Quote:

Likewise, really. Like I said earlier, a European passport is very useful and I'd be reluctant to give it up for that reason, but that aside, I don't have any particular attachment to my nationality. I like certain things about Scotland, and I'm glad I was born there ahead of places more dangerous or unpleasant, but I've never identified particularly strongly as "Scottish" or even "British". I've always just felt like a person more than any specific nationality. I'd happily take most any nationality if it were more convenient than my European nationality for the life I wanted to lead.Quote:
