No, you can't save in a dungeon. I shoud really just take Elk and go around opening all the monster portals, level him up, and get the Ronan Blades, exit the field, save in town, re-enter the field and go to the dungeon.

He's just so useless...it's like he dies on purpose.

He's jealous because Mia likes Kite and his bracelet. (the one that can Data Drain and hack Chaos Gates). Elk says there's something wrong with that particular level, and when he gets Kite alone, he offers everything he has in inventory for a trade for the bracelet...so Mia will like him again.

Then the level becomes infected, and the quest begins.
