For me covers are really only good if they change it around a little bit or add their own unique sound to it, otherwise it just seems like a cheap attempt at riding on someone else's coattails.

I just find it funny because the person that "wrote" the song didn't actually write it either.

Hell they didn't even arrange it, they are just a studio musician, singing the song.

That's why most pop music is superficial and forgettable. Still, the masses want the pretty looking puppet who does what they're told over the truly creative, sadly.
