People read fanfic, and the ratio of good to bad is probably lower there. Especially if you're talking about the 18+ stuff.

t's an established tradition in Japan, a lot of the current crop of manga artists and writers got their start self-publishing Doujin work and selling them at conventions. I could tell you how the Love Hina author got his first exposure, but I'd probably be banned for some of the things I'd have to mention.

I remember reading a doujin about Pan being SSJ or something...

The artist was like...the hand clone of Akira Toriyama, and the story was really cool, but yeah, according to Toriyama himself, female saiyans can't be SSJ.
