I think that might be the main reason people do lol at least thats why i do. I dont have all the money for my gaming habit
That's part of the reason I do it, considering gaming is the most expensive habit I have. Other than that, it's to play the games that I otherwise wouldn't be able to play.
Absolutely, who wants to spend time chasing down rare games when u can just download them, also its alot faster then shipping lol
I download everything because what little gets here to Argentina is expensive. It's not like I have much of a choice. LOL
Only because I'm a pirate. :pirate:
who wants to pay 60 USD for one simple game that only lasts 2 hours and is easy as shit?
not me
i do downloads
I download DS games all the time. I'm not spending $50 bucks for a game.
I download to try a game out. I usually buy used games from gamestop as it's cheaper. Also I look for deals around shops for games that are on sale. You can save a lot of money this way. Plus I don't have the system for some of the games I wanna play. Also, I don't DL X360 games, they're huge and I don't have a flashed 360.
I definitely Download to save money on buying games.....especially import games!!
but like leftyguitar has said - I usually download to see if the game is actually worth buying.
(which are usually in bargain bins around different stores)
I'm always lose on money, so downloading is pretty much the only option I have. But yeah, saving money is the only reason I download.
thats exactly why i download. it saves money. i use emuparadise for all my gaming needs and i use Frostwire for music needs. now frostwire doesnt always have all the songs i want but it has a huge majority of it. so i just purchase the others off of itunes
Some occasions require me to actually buy the game, such as when I can't find a copy of a game that works with my emulator for some reason. So, i'd need to get my hands on the real thing to at least burn it to get a working iso. So I guess sometimes it's better to download, and other times it's better to get the disc/cart.
yes, and not only for games
I'm not that rich that I can throw 60€ out of the window for some new game that isn't even worth 5€.
And it's an easy way to find older games that are no longer produced...
The average DS game isn't even worth wiping your arse on.
I download quite heavily, but it's basically older titles that I will never be able to find. I don't think that Nintendo is losing much money by me thrashing a little ski or die or contra in the comfort of my own home. I can't really agree with downloading the newer games such as PS3 or X-BOX 360 games because if the companies don't make enough money from them, then they will have less money to shell out to create other new games. Not saying that I abhor it either because I am the first to say that Adobe really doesn't need like 2 grand from me for their new version of CS whatever that comes out at an alarming rate. If a game or product is really worth the money, then I will be first in line @ microplay to pick it up with cash money. But if they want me to spend 50-60 on a very shiny terd, then they are sadly mistaken. Also, I will probably pirate anything from Microsoft just because of the piss poor job they did with the 360's and their sad ass Windows platform.
I'm a PS1 Classics guy, so yeah, even though I get most classics on ebay or something, since I didn't get Valkyrie Profile when it came out, for example, I'm not prepared to spend 100$+ for it now. :D
I do download since old PS1 titles are hard to come by this days and if you managed to see it on EBay, it's expensive.
Aye, I figure saving money is the main reason for almost everyone. I personally like to collect so I buy what I deem as more important. I try and support companies that I would like to see continue on and even moreso if they are a smaller company like NISA or Aksys. Humourously enough I own the most actual games for Dreamcast compared to my other consoles. I love games such as Brigandine, Tactics Ogre and Valkyrie Profile but they are not worth their average ebay price. I'd like to buy more things but when I have to drop $120 on the super premium for Disgaea 4 (add to that Agarest Zero and some awesome artbooks coming out in the next few months) it kind of puts me in a bind.
PC I Normally buy, PSP I Buy and download.. although if I like the game I normally buy it
Problem is its lead to a mountain of PSPness xD

I never understood watching movies on the psp.
Burnout Legends near the top.^ That's what I've been playing lately.:)
On topic: I used to get excited about finding older PC Engine CD's on eBay, and I would pay a lot for them too. But even though I would be happy whilst waiting for their arrival in the mail, I would only play them for a wee bit before putting them on the shelf. I considered myself to be a collector, but quite honestly, the surplus of unplayed games just made me feel incredibly empty inside, and it was actually nice to sell them recently to people who were overjoyed to purchase them.
In a way that has transferred over to emulation to some degree in that I now have trouble focusing on a single game. As for the money aspect, I suppose I didn't feel great about shelling out a hundred dollars for an older game just because it was rare, so I guess I'm not really a true collector. But either way, whether a game is bought or downloaded, it should be appreciated, and I have yet to fully relearn that simple truth.
i do download games, mostly because i dont feel like rebuying games which i dont have anymore because my friends "borrow" and dont return or lose. but if i like a game alot and its cheap, i do buy it.
I download when I can't get what I want where I live. The price is just an added bonus.
All the time.
The reality that it essentially equates to theft doesn't bother me as its statistically unlikely I'll ever be charged with the theft. In all honesty asides from maybe 4 or 5 games that were particularly mind blowing, I haven't paid for any sort of digital content in over 12 years.
Conversely half of what I download, I only download because it is free. I would not waste actual money on it.
I download alot of older games and on the newer consoles I download to try out more-so than for keeps.
I don't download anything that is current-generation. I feel that if they are no longer making money on royalties then why should I have to pay to play it?
No. I try to pay for most of the stuff that I can. Nowadays with all the iOS and appstore stuff I can't really justify not paying $1.99 for a game. However, for older games there isn't always a choice since extremely rare copies of titles can be in the $1000+ range. I wouldn't say that I download to save money, it's more about the convenience.
download doesn't required any money, it just cost on internet connection
Well in all honesty, I do. Only 'cause that way I don't have to pay money for music/movies/old games. XD
I also download free PDFs of Dungeons and Dragons Books. The only thing I need to spend my money on for that is dice and a DM Screen. XD
While I haven't purchased many collectible games, I consider myself a collector in the simple fact that I don't sell back my games. I have a massive stack of PS1 games and even some GameGear cartridges. I also know how you feel about appreciating games. I used to download dozens of games, but then I would only put just a couple of hours worth of gameplay into them if even that much. I have since slowly deleted most of my collection, especially my PS1 games. I feel like I don't have the time to play all of the games that I legally own. I still have quite a few that I purchased or received as gifts because I knew I really wanted them and have yet to play. Since I am out of college, I am trying to work on that.
I'm penniless,i download,end of story.
I wonder if people are beginning to re-evaluate the purpose of emulation. I'll keep the really old roms, but like you I recently deleted my PS1 ISO's. I held out hope that the PS3 would have my favorite PS1 game, R4, available for download, and sure enough, they did.:D
I download 1. for the speed and instant gratification.. 2. i'm a cheap broke guy ..
Haha. I cant think of any other reasons other than screwing the gaming industry or saving money. I prefer the later.
If I can support the devs that make games I like, I'll try to buy it so it they can some proceeds, meaning not buying used from Gamestop or some similar fashion.
