what are the differences between the 3DS flash carts?

I have a 3ds xl. I mostly want to play DS games with a cart. 3DS games would be awesome as well, but if not, then I can pay for them.

However, I have no clue what to do if my firmware is too high. I recently updated it to what I would assume is the latest version. Is there a way to revert this if necessary?

Also, if I do play ds and 3ds games with a cart, what kinds of features would I be missing, if any?

The reason I'm asking is BC the R4i gold 3ds card is $16. IIf this is my best option I'll go for it. Thank you.

I asked in my own thread last month about what card to get (having never had one before), and and was told that the DSTWO+ was being released at the end of that month. Though I can't see where it is now so.... maybe it got delayed or something?

That's part of why I was wondering, because nobody seems to have them.

Yeah I have no idea, I think they overhyped it even with what precious little they even told anyone. The speculation on their forum seems all over the place with no solid word so....yeah.

There is not much to choose from at the moment

Mostly the reason not many have them is because until recently they only work on older 3DS firmware 4x or 5x I don't remember exactly i.e. they got locked out and we are up to 9x now

You could wait for the new Supercard DSTWO (which I "think" is supposed to support 3DS roms, might be firmware dependent), which would also let you do some SNES and GBA emulation (other cards struggle with this). If you're fine with just DS roms though (and like, NES/Gameboy level emulation), look into getting an R4i Gold 3DS. I own one and can attest that it still works on the newest (as of now) 3DS firmware, and hasn't been blocked by firmware updates for a while now. Just be careful when searching for it online, as there are a lot of fakes and inferior, similarly named cards out there; you want the one specifically named "R4i 3DS Gold", with "r4ids.cn" on the label.

There are currently no great DS kits anymore and that is a DS kit that works on a 3DS not a 3DS kit that plays 3DS games it can only play DS games/software

I only say it is not great because it will not play everything out of the box, you are required to patch some games before they are playable but asides from that the kit is good

The great kit was the original SuperCard DSTWO that has stopped production in favor the DSTWO+ that has currently not been released, but if you want a temp card for now, the R4i Gold is good one to use while you wait for something better and there are tons of great DS games to keep you going until then :)

I think I found the same one here (it was linked through that list Zorlon posted), so I'd just need a normal micro SD card to go inside it right? Cause I can buy non-fake micro sd cards way cheaper else where already.

I'm not sure what card to buy for a normal DS though, but that might be off topic I guess.

The same card will work on a Normal DS (it's not a 3DS card that can play 3DS roms it's a DS card that also works in a 3DS ;))

One of the est kits for the DS though was the M3 Real with GBA expansion that could play GBA roms from the DS side card with the aid of the GBA expansion you could even get the GBA expansion with rumble that was used in a few DS games or you could get a separate GBA expansion and Rumble pack

You can also get 3 in 1 GBA side devices just about any would do, though it depends on the 3rd party software compat so that is something to read up on anyway those also let you play GBA games from a DS card including the one linked, they can also be used with the web browser or extra ram for some not very much though, homebrew.

I recently ordered an actual 3DS kit (Got sick of waiting for the Supercard DSTWO + to be released so ordered a Gateway card instead for now)

So my question about micro sd cards, will any standard micro sd card fit inside it then? I saw there is an option to buy one with it but I know I can get genuine ones elsewhere for a lower price already.

Also, does the card itself actually hold any information or is it all on the micro sd, and is it better to buy one of the ones that comes with it? I mean if it has stuff on it already.
