Gaming memories

What are some of the best gaming memories you have?

I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I'll tell you about some of them :P

I remember when I was about 13 or so, one of my friends brought his PlayStation 2 to the recreation center we went to (I think that's what it's called... You go there after school to hang out), and he had a Dragonball game for it, everyone wanted to play against him, but he was near impossible to beat. I borrowed another friends PS2 and bought the game just to practise, but he was still impossible to beat, haha :D

Another fond memory is when me and that same friend that beat my ass in DBZ played Samurai Shodown after school... He was not as good at that game, although this might have been before that, he still beat me in it pretty bad though. I've always been so bad at fighting games. We actually met a few days ago to play some Samurai Shodown at my place, to this very day, I still can't win :fist:

I also remember GTA3 at a friends house for the first time. I had never play a game like it before, where you could just walk all over the place and do what you want, I was amazed at how much freedom the game gave you. Anyways, we never played any missions, we just took turns stealing cars and beating up people until his mom said it was too late and I had to go home. I think I'll fire up my good ol' PS2 and play that game, nothing can beat a good trip of nostalgia :PP

So, what are some of your absolute finest gaming memories?

In the 5th grade there was this christian all-night party thing I went to with a friend. They had a room with three original Xbox's set up; two with Halo and one with 007: Nightfire. I remember spending the majority of the night in the room playing the same multiplayer match on the Skyrail level playing whoever wanted to come challenge me, and totally owning :D god I miss that game.

There were also several other games from my youth from which I have fond memories, one in particular being Lufia 2 when I was around 8. For the longest time (literally ~6 months) I remember being stuck on both the Red/Blue block puzzle in the castle basement chasing the crown thieves, and then the Yellow/Red block puzzles in the Sword Shrine later on after getting Selan. For the longest time I would actually have my parents rent a different copy of the game from the local video store for me, knowing that there would be saves on it beyond the parts I was stuck at, letting me play the game further.

Eventually, some 8 years later, I would end up playing this game on zsnes using an old as shit P1 computer visiting a relative at the time, and figuring out the puzzles that had baffled me when I was younger. At a whopping 18-ish FPS I finally managed to beat this game after so long :)

I'll never forget the Christmas that I got my NES. It was '88, and as I was unwrapping presents, one of the was the Rambo game. I remember being in shock at first since I didn't have an NES, but I was such a huge Rambo fan I really thought my parents bought it on accident thinking it was a VHS tape instead of a game. Then I unwrapped a copy of Top Gun (NES), yet another great movie and literally thought my parents lost it. After everything else was unwrapped (GI Joes, Transformers, Legos, etc), I thought the night was over and quickly forgot about those NES games (since I was a youngin). My Dad walked over to the closet and pulled out two boxes; one that was huge and one that was mid-sized. He said something to the effect of "Oh, guess we forgot to put these out." I opened the big box and it was an NES with Mario/Duckhunt and a Zapper, and the midsize box was a NES Advantage Joystick.

That was how I acquired my first gaming system, and you better believe I popped in Rambo before anything else! (I had played an NES prior to this at a friends house so I knew what to expect out of Mario).

Best part about this story (to me anyway) is that I never asked for a NES. It was just a surprise X-mas present.

Gosh the times i used to sit upstairs with my Snes with my whole family watching me play is most memorable.

Also the rage i used to have as a child because i couldn't beat Spinel in Killer Instinct!!!! OHHH!:hotmad:

Or how jealous i used to be of my uncle because he was able to beat my favorite game (at the time) Link to the Past and i couldnt!:ahhh:

Probably one of my more favorite memories that dont involve me playing is when i used to watch my dad play Castlevania Symphony of the Night and me and my siblings used to help him get to the next place and literally get up and point on the map XD. And on top of that we had sweet desserts at the time I think they were gran cracker smores. If i spelled that wrong o well xd.

A fond memory of mine will always be opening a gift on Christmas day and discovering it to be "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" which had just come out...

...but it's not what you think. I was devastated! How could my parents have made such a huge mistake? They had bought me a Zelda game because they had heard me talking about it or something but they didn't even realize I had no system to play it on! No N64! What good was the newest Zelda without an N64?!?!

I feigned gratitude. I forced a smile and said "Gee thanks!" but inside I was crying. The rest of the morning I moped around while others opened their gifts, constantly staring at that golden box with that sword and shield which contained the promise of the brand new epic adventure everyone was talking about but I'd never be able to play...

One present remained under the tree. It was for me but I had lost interest. I told my Mom to open it for me for all I cared.

You guessed it. It was an N64 :)

No my reaction wasn't that of the infamous "N64 Kid" of internet fame. But I learned an important lesson. What that lesson was exactly I dunno. Something about patience...or maybe gratitude?

All I remember was humming the Kokiri Forest theme to myself as I went to sleep that night. :)

The following Christmas I got Rayman 2 for the same system, which despite popular belief, is in my opinion an even better game (alright maybe not better but closer to my heart) and therefore a technically better memory but nothing will top that little Ocarina surprise incident.

If you read all that you're a good soul because it was hella long and corny. :)

omg speaking of a zelda memory when i got majora's mask for my b-day my uncle got it for me (apparently he knew i got oot b4) and what he did is he said "pick a hand" obviously i picked one and nothing he did it again and still nothing now im like where's the present.

XD he then turns around and says "pick a butt" and well it was in his butt pocket but there was the box i got over the fact it was there and took it. strangest memory ever

Anyway, I didnt play many games with friends, but they always had different games than me, and I didnt have many friends growing up. But the two friends I had that had games were brother and sister. The sister was more into computer games, and the brother had an N64. Wed play Mario 64, and the hallway where Peach turns into him always scared me. I had a dream instead of Mario popping up on screen when you started the game his face did and everything was burning in the background. That picture of him in the hallway was far scarier than the actual 3D Bowser in the game, and I was affraid to be in my friends room alone because of the cartridge and black screen.

One of my best gaming memories is when i camped out at a best buy to get a ps2 on release day. i went with 2 of my friends and we brought a little portable space heater, sleeping bags, foldout chairs and a cooler with some alcohol and food. needless to say, we were prepared! we couldnt line up until after the store closed, which was at 10pm, so we had to wait in our cars, then as soon as the lights went out i remembe making a mad dash from the car to the side of the building. literally 20 other people all did the same and it was really funny to see so many people running to get a spot in the line. anyway, after we got our spots, we took turns heading to the car to get all our stuff we brought. to make a long story short, we ended up meeting a lot of really cool people, as we were sharing our mixers and such with them, and had a great time. nevermind that it was colder than a witches tit since we hardly noticed. By the end of that long night, best buy opened it's doors in the morning, we all went in and got our system and a handful of games. after we got back to our place and hooked everything up, all 3 of us passed out since we were exhausted and didn't even get a chance to play! great times!

My parents gave me $20 to spend on souvenirs during our Disney World family vacation in 1985. Instead of buying a Mickey Mouse t-shirt or Pluto stuffed animal, I spend the whole amount playing Space Harrier. The moving cabinet gave me a very sore neck ache but I kept inserting quarters because the graphics and gameplay were so amazing. Flying around the Fantasy Zone all morning back when I was just a little kid still puts a big smile on my face :)

Ha damn, you too? Of all things I think that actually was one of the first elements in a video game I can really remember ever making me feel so uneasy.

Now there's a vivid video game memory. I swear this is what spawned my avoidance of underwater levels in pretty much every video game I'd play in the future to this day :/

Where to start...I remember being two/three playing asteroids on the atari 2600. I wasn't good at the game but I fell in love with video games. I would sit for hours playing Pitfall, Frogger, Branstorming etc, trying to figure them out. Good times.This was the early 80's I don't think we had cable, so this was my entertainment.

I bought FF7 a week before it officially came out from a Sony store. I paid a tad bit extra for it. Beat the thing a day or two before release. Think I was at only level 56 when I faced Sephiroth. Something like 47 when I hit the northern cave. Flew up levels when I got there. Still remember the party I used which was Cloud, Yuffie and Cait-sith. I didn't do much in the way of side quests not that there were alot. Think I only got a blue chocobo and didn't really bother with the gold saucer stuff. I have other memories both older and newer but always thought this was kinda nifty.

Other than a bunch of obvious fun that I had with friends when I was a kid, and the first time that I played certain key games (DOOM, Zelda, Mario, Mega Man, Castlevania, Metroid, etc), my most memorable experience was something along the same vein as this. When DOOM 3 was still this huge, over-hyped sequel that wasn't close to being released yet (late-2002), someone at ATI leaked an alpha release of the game to the public. From what I remember, it was an early E3 demo, but that's beside the point.

There were three levels on there and it required a behemoth of a gaming rig to play at anything even remotely resembling "full speed," but it was a blast. We downloaded it to my buddy's PC (Darth Frogger, for those really old members) and gave the game a shot. It was laggy as all holy hell, running at about 15FPS in the best case scenario. Trying to gun down the first imp that we came across dropped it to 2FPS, which just ended up scaring the crap out of me when it finally caught up and the imp was nowhere to be seen. I shrieked like a little girl and everyone laughed at me. :lol

It was the first time any of us had tried grabbing any leaked games and lead some of us into the pirating scene back when we didn't have jobs and couldn't keep up with the latest games on just an allowance. Still one of my favourite memories ever. :nod:



There was also the time that I got a blowjob while playing Mega Man 3 on the NES. That's right up there too. :whistle:

I feel like we've done this before. Maybe I'm losing my mind.

Anyway, my best gaming memories all involve Magic. Shit like hitting 4 cards off one Cabal Therapy, the awesomeness that was the Ravnica prerelease, the look on a guy's face when a friend of mine played a red card in an otherwise monogreen deck to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat etc... :wacko:

Video game wise I remember the first time I got Disgaea. It was an impulse buy before it became overly popular (late 03). It turned me on to strategy RPGs as well as NIS and I never looked back. I was playing as soon as I got home from school every day. I sunk so much time into that bad boy.
