I think it is pretty dumb. Although, I wonder if Bridgestone will step up.

That explains why I haven't seen him lately... I was kind of looking forward to him doing a commercial for the upcoming Playstation All-Stars game. Maybe they'll use that little colored kid PSP Marcus instead.... ha.

Well, in Sony's defense, it's pretty much a textbook trademark case. It's forbidden to use another company's name/logo/characters/etc. to promote your product without permission in order to prevent consumer confusion. The entire point is to prevent the "Wait, Kevin Butler is promoting Nintendo games?" thing that went on so much when the commercial aired. While it is a bit depressing that it pretty much means the guy can't do any video game advertising outside Sony simply due to how much we associate the character with his physical likeness, it definitely makes sense from a legal standpoint.
Also, not being able to advertise video games doesn't mean that much. Sure, it's one of the biggest businesses out there, but it's not the only one by any means.
Technically, he was advertizing Bridgestone stuff, and I guess you get a Wii as a prize or something.
