Yeah I played Socom II online, it's supposedly the best one for online but it was really a pain in the ass for me. I lost connection a lot and there was just too much lag at times.
It wasn't like the PSN today, still I think thats my reason why I don't play on PSN. I'm not a hater or anything, it's just at times like these I stick to one console and never look back and that has been my Xbox 360. It sucks that I'm gonna miss out on The Last Guardian and Team Ico Collection though.:(
Not many PS2 games still work unfortunately, if the game is an EA title forget about it hell i got psp ea titles they shut down the online for >.< feel free to try games just don't be surprised if you get a "Server Cant Be Found" sort of error
however if you find one that does work let me know :D
I remember playing some matches of Killzone, it had a good quality netcode and I spent a lot of time in it, I think I heard it still works as of now, can't tell for sure.
Brother spent a lot of time playing FIFA08 online. :P He racked up a lot of victories and it was very alive and well until EA pulled the plug, good memories.
tony hawk games are all dead :( but they used to have tons of people. socom still works just fine and alot of people play online from their ps3 with ps2 games. call of duty 3 still works but theres only like 10 people on regularly. star wars battlefront 2 still has a couple hundered people

The link goes to a list of online PS2 games and even says which ones are not online anymore. Anyway, I used to play Star Wars Battlefront II and Timesplitters: Future Perfect online. Battlefront II is still running, but Timesplitters was discontinued.
In fact, all of the games that allow system link / LAN play can be used online using xlink kai. Plenty of people playing Twisted Metal Black online, big red one, and many, many others.
