FF8 can't play on emulators

I have the newest epsxe and psx v1.11 emulator, all up to date with patches etc. I downloaded FF9 from this site and it worked great on both emulators, no problem. I have a FF8 original ps1 game CD and i wanna play it on my pc, i tried using Ultra ISO (registered version) and make a .bin file, i tried it on both my emulators but they don't work. They only show up the Playstation logo and then a black screen, nothing loads. I tried to convert the .bin to .cdz file but it doesn't work either. I then tried to make ISO file and convert to .bin but doesn't work. I tried using nero to make iso file and then convert but failed as well.

The disc works fine on my playstation 1 and 2, i don't get wat i'm doing wrong. I know how to make iso files and i know how to make them properly but i don't know y i cant get the file to work with the emulators, plz help.

You don't need to make an ISO if you have the original disc. Just insert the disc in your CD drive and set the emulator to run from it.

Use CDRWin or IsoBuster to create a bin/cue:

You can play it from the original disc too, but you'll need to configure the cdrom plugin/settings first.

And you may get some slowdown while playing it because data is read off a CD more slowly than when it's read off a hard drive.

ok i downloaded and registered the ISO Buster, full version. I used the program, followed the steps and made a .bin file. The bin file is around 650mb which seems the proper size for a FF8 disc, just like all the other iso files etc i've made. But again, it doesn't work.

I've changed the settings already and it doesn't work if i play straight from CD. The reason y i make them into ISO files is cuz they load faster and i just like it better without playing on CD.

What version is this that you're trying to play (US, Euro, Jap)?

You say you can't make a working ISO of a game you can't even run from the original CD?

If the CD doesn't work, and neither does the image made from it, I'd say to not bother with it. If it runs on your consoles, play it on there.

Also, if you can make an ISO file, just mount it with Daemon tools instead of converting it. Btw, try ePSXe 1.5.2 and not 1.6.0. It works seemingly better with some games.

You can just use magiciso to make iso file of your game cd. and mount iso file as virtual cd later.

I didn't say that, first of all i said already that i have the original FF8 game, i tested it and it still works perfectly on my PS1 and PS2 without any problem. I made the ISO file using all the suggested programs, but when i try to play the game using the emulators it doesn't work. Like i said, i know how to make ISO files and i did it correctly, i followed the guides just to double check and it just shows a black screen on my emulator. I tried it on both epsxe and psx 1.11, also i tried it on epsxe 1.5.2 as well and they all don't work.

I already finished the game on my console, i just wanna play it again on my computer because i can cheat and i can play it faster this way, i don't wanna play it again on my console.

Yes i've tried Daemon tools and Gamedrive, it doesn't work. It shows a black screen after loading the Playstation logo.

Stupid question, but you did unzip the BIOS file before putting it in the bios folder?

Because with pSX 1.11, when you start it, you don't just get a black screen.
You get the Sony logo, then the BIOS config screen.

that's wat i said already.......i get the "Playstation" logo screen after launching the iso file i made, and then it shows a black screen after that.

My bios is configured properly, like i said i tested FF9 and it works.

If Final Fantasy 8 doesn't boot with pSX or ePSXe, you most likely to have a scratched disc. Try using another image.

If not, use Disc 2 to boot and insert Disc 1 when starting a new game. After that, you can utilise save states.

This is a strange situation as I have perfect images of FF8 and they work perfectly and since you say your original copy also works and if you didn't get read errors when imaging the disc then your images must also be perfect. pSX doesn't really take that much effort to load a game but if it's still showing a black screen then something must be really wrong.

Try loading your image file (.bin for cue/bin image or .img for CloneCD image) into a program that you can get for free called HashCalc and post what it says next the CRC-32, MD5 or SHA-1. These are the most common checksums used and are also the ones listed on http://psxdb.com for all the games there.

ok i will try that, seems like a good suggestion :D

my disc isn't scratched at all, i have not dropped it once or even touch it once on the back side. I only played the game about twice and it works perfectly fine on my PS1 and i can not find any single scratch marks on it.

Are you on dial-up?
