I think i have a real virus

Its no joke and i was wondering if any1 has run into this, and could possibly help me.

Heres what i know it does so far:

Causes errors in lsass.exe (security program)
doesnt let me shutdown (deletes the bat files that allows comp to shutdown, i got around it by selecting switch users, then i selected shut off computer)
After lsass.exe error message comes up, it will no longer let you open any software programs (i.e. mozilla firefox, internet explorer, ePSXe, Chankast, msn, aim, yahoo)

the errors in lsass causes it to give me an lsass error message telling me its shutting down, and as soon as i click ok, it restarts my computer.

Right now im downloading certain security updates on update.microsoft.com hoping one of them fixes this. I dont know how long i can stay online but for now ill watch this topic while my security stuff is downloading and installing.

Yep just as i finished selecting certain updates, the lsass.exe system error came back up again. the EXACT error message is Object Name Not Found.

I clicked install and its working so im gunna let it run while the error message is up. Since it doesnt let me open any software programs after the message comes up, im not closing mozilla, so ill be here till my installs are done.

If any1 knows the virus name, and the anti virus, please gimme a working link. i have to get rid of the files otherwise the security installments wont even work.

Doesn't look like you have scanned them with virus and adware scanners yet. Try those first.

So far, what the security updater says is:

Im just posting this so that no1 else runs into this problem.

Google, or check on symantecs site, for the sasser worm, and downlaod the fix. This is old man, and easy to get rid of ;)

yea well one of the downloads im downloading is maliscous software removal tool, and it said sasser under it. i remember when sasser came out, a while ago. thanx darth. i often factory system restore, to delete any spamware i have. i didnt download any security updates this time, cuz they often dont allow me to bring up task manager, it just puts a green box on the task bar next to the audio thingy with green stuff in it. If any1 knows the update to fix that please say so.

Also download that. It's a very good virus scanner, and it's free.

EDIT: ah yes. Once you find something, it isn't as hard to get rid of. So it's a good thing you found it, better then not finding it.

yeah, if your running win2k, there should also be a patch, so you don't get it again.

Also, if you are into BT (which, who isn't) you may want to download PeerGuardian 2 and a good firewall (try to avoid the standard windows firewall and some AV firewalls). There was a FAQ on this stuff over in the tutorials section which can help keep your CPU safe while connected.

thanx KvN if my damn rep didnt suck so much id give you some. im downloading what you recommended now. im canceling the security update and just downloading the maliscous software removal thingy first, since it should remove the bug. the update is moving too slowly. well i gotta restart so ill be right back. the lsass.exe thing is still up so once i click ok its just gunna restart anyway, and since its the only way to do it, im gunna click ok to restart the comp. then ill go directly to the microsoft site and download that mally remover.

Doesn't anyone know that MS updates are a crock of s**t? Here's the solution to your virus problems:

GO to this link
Follow the instructions.
DO NOT D/l any more Microsoft "updates". (Use ServicePacks only)
Throw out your useless Norton programs (use AVG by Grisoft & Sysgate Firewall.

But the best option, IMHO...

Install Linux
and delete your problems (windoze) forever!!

yea, its a pain, but still, almost all programs require windows.... but anyway so far so good, looks like its gone, but ill tell yall if i still have problems. the mally remover removed quite a few, i counted over 25 different stuff removed, i had 1 worm, and 1 backdoor, and the rest was noninfection, they were just spybots.

Dude, this dude wants to fix a virus. Not re-do his whole PC, so why don't you just STFU.

Well he could be telling snake to dual boot his PC (not a bad Idea. I have 3 paritions, 3 OS). It's great for anyone who doesn't like windows, but still has to rely on their programs. I believe hardc0re mentioned he was going to dual boot to linux for a while, then he appears to have just stuck to a one OS setup.

quit being a n00b, you don't have the right to tell anyone to stfu, except yourself.

And yea, AVG + ad-aware + *GASP* Microsuck... erm, microsoft anti-spyware is the best combo in my opinion. Don't bother with Peer Guardian, I find it blocks to much, and causes a lot of lag. You should get a decent firewall though, i'm using outpost.
