ADSL PCI modem
hi, i have a pci ADSL modem and it keeps disconnecting after hitting a certain CRC count and a ATM HEC count. If i disconnect the connector from the wall, go to another room and lift the phone and close it until i hear the power die (close it slowly) then reconnect it's ok. Is this a phone line problem or a modem problem?
-
It sounds like a modem issue to me, considering it disconnects after so many CRC errors. But the fact that you are even getting the CRC errors to start with leads me to believe there is something wrong with your phone line.
I got no idea, try re-installing the modem or something. Either that or get the service provider to fix the problem with the line.

could it be the number of devices on the one line? would that cause CRC errors?
-
Maybe. How many devices are we talking? It could be EMP noise, from flourescent lights and such. That could be causing the errors as the data travels up the line.
-
we're talking 5 phones, and one of them is a portable phone.
-
They could be causing the interference. But I don't know for sure.
I would say you need to shield the line better from EMP and the like. I would get someone from you provider to come in and give a proper analysis of the problem. They SHOULD do this for free, considering you're a customer. If not, blow your stack, and find someone who will.
