Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children (Movie Info)

This is a post in particular to share your information and discuss your theories about the movie.

Title: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Genre: CG Action / Thriller.
Type: DVD ONLY!!! (It is NOT to be released for the big screen)
Story: (This is complicated, and I'm not positive, this is all the info I could find on it. . .)

The story takes place two years after the end of Final Fantasy VII. The planet has become a peaceful place, industry and cities seem to be in ruins. However most of the surviving people have been affected by "Star Scar" syndrome.

Cloud has been living alone, likely having lost those who were his friends and companions in FFVII. He feels some guilt as to what he had done in attempting to save the world. Was it the right thing to do? Was it all worth it. He feels alone in the world as it is now.

In the trailers, we see Cloud riding through what looks to be the ruins of Midgar. He is attacked by an unknown attacker with what looks to be some kind of sword kind of weapon. A sword fight takes place between Cloud and this unknown enemy. The enemy has silver hair (although shorter than Sephiroth's) and wears tight black clothing.

We also see this unknown enemy bowing down to a person shrouded in a white sheet or cape from head to toe. He reaches out to take his hand and bows before him. A flashback of Sephiroth then appears on the screen. Is there some kind of relationship here?

And here is little tidbits of information gained from various sites with a translation from a magazine article regarding the movie.

Cloud will use 6 swords. These are stored in his motorcycle which is called "Fenrir".
The function of Barret's right arm has changed.
There are three opponents, the original silver haired enemy, and two others.
The original silver haired enemy is a teenager; the newer enemies are aged in their 20s.
The weapon which the two opponents use is called Velvet Nightmare.
The silver haired enemy uses a refined double sword, and is referred to as being a Motif or Tricky (appears to be two translations on this).

The movie is now 15% complete.
Cloud's sunglasses are more practical than for fashion, as they serve the purpose of protecting his eyes.
The movie will now run for somewhere between 70 and 80 minutes instead of the 60 minutes we were originally told.
Cloud's character model has been altered, in order to reflect a more younger appearance.
The original silver haired enemy is the leader. Although his name is yet to be released, it has a simple meaning.
The three opponents all have different abilities, although they look similar in facial structure.
Although the opponents are male, they may appear to have feminine qualities also.


What does all of this mean? It means there are ALOT of questions to be asked and even more answers to be found. It's late and I'm going to sleep, but tomorrow, I'll post more information and my two cents on all of this.

This sounds like it will be pretty interesting when it comes out. It will certainly attract my attention a lot more than the previous FF movie.

Tell you what, they should make a special version of FF7 based on the movie for the PS2... I doubt that'll happen though.

Sephiroth clones with dye-jobs.

I think that despite wether or not the final product sucks, it's going to be snatched up by legions of crazed FF fans, who upon laying thier grubby hands on it will suddenly explode into fit's of fanboyish glee, experiencing what will likely be the first and only orgasm they'll achieve without manually bringing it on themselves.
As for myself, well I'm rather indifferent towards this movie. It looks kinda intriguing, but it's rather short running time may mean that the plot get's short-changed in favor of action.
I'm really hoping this isn't just a ploy to cash in on fans rabid-obsession to see FFVII's storyline continued, and that it ends up being something worth all the hype that people are lumping on it. I'm sure I'll see it eventually, but I'm not at all on the hype bandwagon, and I doubt I'll see it soon after it's released.

i haven't understood one thing....will it have a dubbed english version at all or just english subtitles?

and yeah...hopfully this will be good, for both the action but mostly the storyline I hope.

I'll buy it, I'll see it, and I will jump with a leap of wanton happiness onto the proverbial bandwagon of which Cyber speaks. Well, it might not be a leap as such, more of a contrived fosbery flop, but you get the idea.

Now dont get me wrong, Im no fanboy or anything, - and no...I wont be gratifying myself over the rendered images of Cloud et al - but the thought of the universe created in FFVII continuing (if only for the duration of a feature length film) intrigues me. The general concensus is that FFVII is one of (if not the) greatest videogaming phenomenon of all time, which is an argument I am ill-inclined to dispute. Thus, a continuation and expansion of the plotline is, to my eyes at least, a wholly exciting prospect and one which I anticipate with a baited breath.

So let's hear it everyone. We all know what the icon for the movie looks like (Cloud and Sephiroth molding together), we also know the main villians look similiar to Sephiroth... Who/what do you think they are? Could they be young Sephiroth clones? Perhaps they're his "Children" or even beyond that... the icon IS Cloud and Sephiroth blending together, maybe they're a combination of the both? Some type of gene splicing formed by Cloud and Sephiroth being in the life stream together!

Some other theores... no one knows who the man (or woman) in the wheelchair covered in a white robe is! I think he's Sephiroth. Sephiroth supposedly died in the lifestream, but Cloud came out alive... when Cloud came out of the lifstream, he was confined to a wheelchair for quite some time... if Sephiroth had emergeed from the lifestream, he would indeed, be confined to such a device as well. Who do you think he is? (Some sites have theories that it's Aeris)

Barret's arm is no longer a gun. In the game he used to fight the Shin-Ra, but it would seem that the Shin-Ra are a distant past in this movie. The pictures appear as if it's a standard metal hand... perhaps it has the ability to change form like a transformer? Who knows!? Any ideas?

Now, off the theory side... on the Japanese site, there is a spot called "Shin-Ra". Beleive it or not, it does serve a purpose and it has NOTHING to do with the Shin-Ra in the game. Shin-Ra will be a club for people who (own????) the DVD! They will receive special updates, information, making of the movie, etc. It's a Japanese club, but maybe they'll make a US version? Oh yes! Also, there will be Shin-Ra membership cards! I don't know how that will work out, but we'll see!

This is up for debate really. There hasn't even been an official announcement of a North American version... I would assume the Japanese DVD will have optional english subtitles. Whether they will dub it, or just create a version compatable with most US DVD players, is uncertain... I would think they'd just do voice overs... but since it's a DVD only release, that may not be the case...

Sepiroth didn't die in the lifestream, you see him at the crater in that cocoon looking thing, thats the Sepiroth Cloud threw into the lifestream in the reactor back at Nibelheim
as for the villains in the movie...
if they are related to Sepiroth in any way they are most likely clones of him on someway or another.
Also the guy in the wheelchair is most likely Sepiroth, seeing as when you see him and the villain kneels before him, you see the flashback of Sepiroth burning down a certain place.
That scene hints very well that it is him.

But ofcourse, we won't know any of this for sure until the movie gets out :P
hopefully the storyline will be good, and not 99.9% action, and the rest storyline -_-
that would be an insult to the original game...

Sure I have :). But it doesn't answer that question. The closest thing is that the characters will have voices, he didn't say whether they'd be english, Japanese, or anything really. Anyways, I did enjoy the post immensly! Thanks.

Hey, I can admit it, I'm a fanboy... but I can also downtalk alot of their products. For example, I thought it was horrible that on
FF-X you couldn't walk the world freely and there was NOTHING aside from blitzball that you could do that wasn't linear... so sad... but, that being said, we have to remember... there is a reason this series keeps alive, and it's not just fan boys. It's the fact that every game is revolutionary in its own way. X's graphics were beyond that of almost anything released for the PS2 at the time... X-2 went a unique way with a story, a sub-story of an original. I mean, they try to do new things, so I give them their credit.

All i know is that the guy fighting Cloud isn't sephiroth himself. But there will be flashbacks (so yes u will see sephiroth and Aeris)

M3M calls it now. Its gonna suck. Not in sales of course, but in quality. First of all, sequals, on the rule, generally suck. This is going to be a quick action based movie that fanboys will love but actual intelligent people will go blech at. However enough of the former will keep sales high.
