Default How many NES games have you beaten?

There are 709 licensed titles in the NES library in the US and PAL regions and on top of that you have the 113 unlicensed games. Counting the Japan-exclusive titles you've got, fuck I dunno, over a thousand games anyways. And this is the NES, titles are easy and short. So how many games have you beaten? 50? 100?

My friend brought this subject up with me and I was sort of surprised by the fact that it was less than thirty for me, 29 to be precise. So, what's your number?

You can count which way you like but I chose to only include games that I've played without saving/loading at all, which means that a lot of games I've emulated dun' go on the list. Also, there's a bunch of games that I played on the NES when I was little that I think I might have beaten, but since I don't know for sure I didn't feel like adding them.

Edit: I had forgotten about two games, so my number was actually 31!!!

    1. Bubble Bobble
    2. Castlevania
    3. Castlevania III
    4. Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers
    5. Contra
    6. Double Dragon III
    7. Family Feud
    8. Ghostbusters II
    9. Kung Fu
    10. The Legend of Zelda
    11. Maniac Mansion
    12. Mega Man
    13. Mega Man II
    14. Mega Man III
    15. Mega Man IV
    16. Mega Man V
    17. Mega Man VI
    18. Ninja Gaiden
    19. Ninja Gaiden II
    20. Ninja Gaiden III
    21. Nintendo World Cup
    22. Rush'n Attack
    23. Shadowgate
    24. Super C
    25. Super Mario Bros.
    26. Super Mario Bros. II
    27. Super Mario Bros. III
    28. Tecmo World Wrestling
    29. Vice: Project Doom
    30. Adventures in the magic kingdom
    31. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II
    32. Battletoads and Double Dragon

Also, I chose to only include games with a, more or less, real ending. So most sport/contest games were excluded as well as stuff like rescue: embassy mission and whatnot.

Hmm hard to remember but I'll post those that I'm reasonably sure I've beaten. On the actual hardware too and not emulation.

    Here we go:

    Adventure Island
    Batman
    Batman Return of the Joker
    Castlevania
    Castlevania 3
    Chip and dales rescue rangers
    Dragon Warrior
    Dragon Warrior 3
    Ducktales
    Ghostbusters
    Kings Quest 5
    Metroid
    Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants
    Star Trek 25th anniversary
    Super Mario Brothers
    Super Mario Brothers 2
    Super Mario Brothers 3
    TMNT 2
    TMNT 3
    Tiny Toon Adventures
    Yo! Noid

So yeah just over 20 that I can remember.

Of course there's puzzle/sports games that I left out too!!!

Only included are the ones I know I've finished on the original hardware. I've finished a few through ROMs/emulators using save states and whatnot, but those don't count. I also don't remember if I've beaten a bunch of games, like the Ninja Gaidens, so I didn't include those to be safe, even though I'm fairly certain I've finished one of them.

I know I've beaten a lot of games, and I won't include anything I had to use an emulator for (it's pretty rare anyway, since I've owned the NES since 1987, I've rented just about everything I could get my hands on).
    1. Contra
    2. Super C
    3. SMB
    4. SMB2

    29. Gradius
    30. Life Force
    31. Jackal
    32. Cabal
    33. Tiger Heli (it repeats, but there is technically an end to it)
    34. Rad Racer
    35. RC Pro Am (it repeats as well, but spelling NINTENDO 3 times in the course of one game and earning all the vehicles is enough for me)
    36. Magic of Scheherezade

    64. Kung Fu

    98. GI Joe
    99. Iron Tank
    100. Karnov
    101. Jaws

I think that's about it - I kinda browsed a master list, so that helped a bit..... but in hindsight there really are a fair amount of NES games that can't really be beaten. I remember beating the hell out of games like Spyhunter, Xevious, Seicross and plenty of sports games and other arcade ports, but most of them just repeated and never had an end.

not many, in fact, aside from the few i remember owning in the past (mind you this was quite a while back, like early to mid 90's) i haven't really played all that much of nes evenvia emulators. lets see...

    1.Megaman
    2.Guardian Legend
3.maybe 1 of the TMNT games, not sure

as for those i've played on an emulator

4.Battle Kid - Fortress of Peril (the battle kid games are HARD)

and thats all i can remember having actually beaten on that console. despite it being the first console i had and having owned several games for it i never really beat many of them and still don't bother with nes much on emulators.

I've beaten a whopping two NES games ever, those being Mario Bros 2 & 3. If you count ports to other consoles you can include Mario Bros 1, Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warrior 3 :p
"I think that the problem with this video is it is highly derivative of many popular bands within the genre. Although when viewed on its own merits, it does have a deeper groove. However what it has in groove, it lacks in originality. One can't help but be reminded of such bands as Pearl Jam, White Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and other bands that bear the mantle of so called "Alternative Rock". One is even reminded of Lorie Anderson when she wore curlers. Hehehmhm! This video speaks less to the heart and more to the sphincter. In closing, I think Korn would do well to learn more from -"

    1 Bionic Commando
    2 Contra
    3 Castlevania II
    4 Castlevania III
5 Double Dragon II: The Revenge
    6 Dragon Warrior
    7 Final Fantasy
    8 Metroid
    9 MegaMan II
    10 MegaMan III
    11 MegaMan IV
    12 MegaMan V
    13 Ninja Gaiden
14 Ninja Gaiden II (last 3 bosses without dying)
    15 River City Ransom
    16 Strider
    17 Super Mario Bros 2
    18 Super Mario Bros 3
    19 Trojan
    20 Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
21 Wrath of the Black Manta
22 Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

I ALWAYS get lost in Blaster Master, and I think I managed to make it to the last boss of Battletoads one time, only to be promptly served. Gauntlet II goes on forever, but I played to about level 210 once just to be sure.

Do you guys consider it beating a game if it's in the style of something like California Games, Skate or Die, Winter Games, World Games, 720, Track and Field, etc?? In other words, games that don't actually "end", but you can master all the events. If so I have a few others to add

Edit: Also, what about the games like Jaws, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St..... I don't think there's an actual end to any of those either - I remember working over Jason more than a few times in 1 playthrough, and the same with Jaws. Freddy I remember having to get all the bones and then fight him, but I'm not actually sure if I ever pulled it off.

I honestly can't name all the games I've beaten on NES, but it's quite a few. Certainly no 80+ or anything, but growing up me and my dad used to play all the time and beat quite a few. I didn't beat the harder ones until my adult life though. The Megamans and such. I've still never beaten Contra without the code though. I'd need to plug in the NES again to try again, and I don't think I can handle the heartbreak.

There is an end to Jaws, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th. You have to kill Jason 3 times, and there's a final boss fight with Freddy where you have to throw all of the bones that you've collected into a furnace. There are definitive screens that say "End" on them. I got bored and watched a speedrun of those games. I've never watched a speedrun of Jaws, but according to this GameFAQ article that I have bookmarked, it does exist.

For the others, I personally consider the point where something loops to be the "end" of the game. For example, in RC ProAM you will eventually loop around back to the beginning of the game if you keep playing long enough. It technically goes on forever, but once you hit that first loop, you're done in my opinion. Or for a game like 720, once you beat each event 4 times and rank up to and beat Class 4, you'll get a really quick "Finished" screen then start Class 4 over again, so that can be considering "beating" the game.

I never knew 720 was on NES. I had it on one of those old multi midway discs you could get for a couple bucks and loved it.
