they have all been hyperlinked, however you might miss other info, like how to get the game to work, or what it's about, so scroll through and read. i also hope my Alpha order skills are right too
also if a game doesn't work, because its too old, try using compatibility mode;
To configure the compatibility mode for an application, just locate the installation directory and right click on the .exe/application, selecting Properties from the menu.
also, if there are any broken links, please tell me so.Alsoplease provide a link to download that game. as much as i like this thread, i don't really like to find 30 games you have listed. Also Please don't list games already on the master list.
Rockstar released GTA, Wild Metal, and GTA2 as freeware. You have to signup for newsletter and then they send you an email with the link. http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/
EA released two command & conquer titles, originally by Westwood, as freeware. I think it was to celebrate C&C 3. They're disc images so you will need to mount or burn them.
It's actually a tetralogy, and should be played in the above order. It's pretty Cthulhu/Silent Hill-ish, so if you like that sort of stuff, and you're not afraid of pixels, go get them.
Missing - Another great horror adventure game. Pretty gory and disturbing, my personal favourite.
Fedora Spade - A detective story in four parts, it feels like of a mix of Snatcher and Phoenix Wright.
I Wanna Be The Guy: A platformer in the classic (read: bloody evil) tradition of the NES era. You are The Kid, who wants to become The Guy. This is a game that will kill you. Again. And Again. And Again.
Iji: It's the end of the world, and you get to fight the alien invaders in this platformer. Notable for the story changing when you do a pacifist run.
La Mulana: Another platformer from that will do its level best to break your spirit and leave you a whimpering husk devoid of all emotion beyond despair. Oh, and a very hilarious final bonus, linked in case you aren't able to beat Hell's Temple (and because I love the scream of utter despair and agony - I've linked this before). Patch available at the given link, plus a link to the game itself.
Narcissu: Visual novel, not eroge, very depressing. Oh, and just as a note, terminal patient care is not really as depicted in-game. Really. Even in Japan.
the white chamber: Horror point-and-click adventure game. Oh, and watch the blackboard carefully as you progress. Do you regret?
Marathon: Before Halo, Bungee created three FPS games. Traditional insane AI, last human on the station/colony, end of the world is nigh, check, check, and check. The trilogy is now freeware, available at the link before.
Battle for Wesnoth: Hexagonal turn-based strategy, high fantasy, open source. Grand fun.
Bootfighter Windom XP SP-2: 3-D fighter with giant robots. Well, let's not mince words, they're basically Gundams, with a couple guest-stars from Macross, Super Robot Taisen originals, and a few other series if I recall properly.
Castle of the Winds: A fun little Norse-inspired Roguelike from back in the days before Windows 95.
Nethack: The pinnacle of Roguelikes. This game will, again, kill you in a veritable plethora of ways, then revive the corpse to kill you again. And then delete your save file. Such YASDs (Yet Another Stupid Death) include wall-kicking.
Star Control 2: The Ur-Quan Masters: You are the last free humans in the galaxy. Your mission: destroy the Ur-Quan Kzer-za who have enslaved/imprisoned your people, free humanity and the rest of the Alliance Of Free Stars, and ultimately, stop the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah from genociding the half of the galaxy they left to the Kzer-za.
Yume Nikki: Very open-ended RPG made in RPG Maker 2003, intentionally made to be disturbing.
Dwarf Fortress: Run a fortress, populated by Dwarves. Source of the infamous LP Boatmurdered. The graphics are a bit lo-res, to say the least, but it's a fascinating game.
Cave Story: Platformer. To quote the creator, "Cave Story is a jumping-and-shooting action game. Explore the caves until you reach the ending. You can also save your game and continue from where you left off." Technically, he's not wrong.
You Have To Burn The Rope: Because after IWBTG, La Mulana, and Nethack, you will need this game. Another interesting platformer.
Rose&Camellia: Regency Romance Cat Fights. Err...a distinctly odd game, to say the least.
Skuld: Skuld: Goddess Second Class, Type One, Limited License. Debugging reality, one mallet-smash at a time.
its a run and gun platformer, its very fun, and has pop cultural refs too. this game greatly improves upon the 1st one. [note: if you have Vista, put it in compatibility mode with service pack 2(XP) selected]
Perhaps you should consolidate all of these games into a single post at the top. It's going to be tedious trying to sift through multiple pages of posts for games.
