The Common Cold (not the Flu) could be modified to destroy cancer cells?

Interesting article linked to from that page. Seems like their is some sound Science as to why this would happen (the cold trying to inject it's DNA into the already damaged cells - it failing, and the body or the cold ordering the cell to self destruct).

This idea is apparently nothing new however, but I just read about it today Thought it was interesting.

Was reading howstuffworks last night too about how Viruses work (already knew it pretty well). Nasty buggers, get into your body, look for healthy cells then they inject your cells with their own damaged DNA! Bastards, lol Eventually they cause that cell to burst due to the amount of crap it ends up containing.

I know neighboring school districts were shut down when over half of the student population came down with the flu, but ours hasn't been seriously affected. Of course, even if it had been, I doubt our superintendent would shut down the schools for anything short of nuclear war...and then it's kind of iffy.

And, Del_Boy, not quite accurate. A virus typically works by injecting its DNA into the targeted cell, yes, but said DNA is far from damaged; it works to produce more viruses. More virulent diseases reproduce the way you said, though - the viral DNA takes over the cell, uses it to produce more viruses, then bursts, releasing those viruses to repeat the process. Other ones merely sit dormant in the cell's DNA until they're triggered by something in the environment, at which point every cell born from the original cell in range of the trigger go through the process mentioned above.

    LOL, it happens (often).

But... in this case I just stated it wrongly. The cold virus DNA is damaged only in the way that it is malicious (and in comparison to the correct DNA of your cells), and not incomplete which is what my original posting may have suggested

Excellent clarification though, and really well explained.

i had an odd sickness that made me sick for about a week. first the doctors thought it was serious strep throat, then they thought it was mono. they never figured out what it was.
